There are definitely question marks over Ramsdale, but Pope is consistently making the exact kind of mistakes that those question marks cover anyway and hasn't exactly been setting the world alight with amazing performances in between those errors either.

It's hard to see how Ramsdale wouldn't be at least an equivalent swap at the moment even purely from a goalkeeping perspective, with the added benefit of bringing a lot more composure on the ball.

Can't remember who said it but it would've been better if he just wiped the kid out. Mightve got away with a yellow, with Thiaw covering but even a red would've given us a chance to close shop for 45 fucking minutes 😂

Having said that, I'm done with the cunt.

Good at doing shot stopping but doesn't command his box, couldn't punch the skin off a rice pudding, can't kick and his emotional fragility causes too many bad decisions.

Yesterday's has tipped me over.

I've got PTSD 😂😂

Or PPRSD… Post Pope Rash-Dash Disorder. More letters = must be worse.

he's costing us too many goals for sure

I would say directly responsible for 3 defeats this season

we have lots of other problems in the team which aren't helping obv (scoring goals, giving the ball away cheaply etc)

unless he's so much better than Ramsdale in training I don't understand why Pope has become undroppable

I do think in all of this Pope's strengths are kind of being taken for granted and as things we're just assuming Ramsdale also has tbh.

Pope's talent for shot-stopping, particularly one-on-one and his (usual) reliability on crosses aren't necessarily going to be things Ramsdale has at the same level.

Even last night Pope made a couple of good saves that we just see as standard, that I could definitely see Ramsdale not making.

Personally think Pope has been quite flappy this season tbh, his decision making around crosses has been poor in particular.

His shot stopping is generally good but I don't think he made any amazing saves last night, most of their efforts were straight at him.

Kind of what I'm getting at really. If Ramsdale comes in and consistently makes those saves in the same way Pope does then fair enough.

Yeah  I'm banking on the whole goalkeepers mature later thing happening.

FWIW I had a chat with my boss, Arsenal fan, when we signed him. He was very positive about him, said he was had a great season at Arsenal and started to falter when Raya came in and it felt like Arteta wasn't backing him.

Think this is fair, but I also think there's a point at which Ramsdale's superior ability on the ball + Pope's blunders make Ramsdale the net positive. Obviously it's not as simple as that, but I think we're very close to that point now, if not past.

I miss the days when it was just his kicking we were concerned with. His sweeping is becoming iffy, he's not as confident with crosses, his shot-stopping is what you'd expect from a Premier League keeper. His confidence must be shot to bits.

Ramsdale might turn out to be shite but I think Pope has made a case for Howe to try him out for a while now. I cannot see him being dropped for Everton though.

If anything just to keep people on their toes and pull them out of the firing line.

Ramsdale was in the team of the season. And Arsenal rewarded him by buying another keeper. Let’s face it though, just like burn there is no way Howe is going to drop him and we will continue to be shit away from home, employing a system that doesn’t suit our players. Howe needs to drop this blind loyalty to certain players as it has a negative impact on the whole team. Pope is a very good goalkeeper but his confidence looks shot to bits. It’s would be a lot fairer on him to give him a spell away from the firing line.
