Joe has so aye he can, Isak also but I don't think that will continue really, I think we'll see rotation of him and Wilson up top with the extra Cup to play in now. I suspect Joe will play mainly central midfield for the same reasons. So for me it's ASM & Gordon as the two purely for the left wing position, with rest as stop gaps, and as you've quite rightly said, just the two on the right. Another proper wide player who can play either side is probably a must for the extra games.

That's why I put Joelinton and Willock as one, as they interchange, even if the starting position and the average position is probably more Joelinton's Getting a wide player I can understand, especially a versatile one but a purely left sided one doesn't make sense

Hope I’m wrong as I hope we can get the right players in early for preseason. Im the opposite, I think we get at least 2 of our main targets in by pre season and then others follow later on. Cronky
9 minutes ago, Jinky said: According to NUFC.COM...... Spanish media outlets reported on Wednesday that Newcastle were in pole position to complete the permanent signing of Spaniard Gabri Veiga. The 21 year-old central midfielder was repeatedly watched by Newcastle last season as he netted nine times in 35 La Liga games, scouted mostly recently during Vigo's 1-2 defeat at Bilbao. Veiga was also reportedly scouted by Liverpool and has been linked with Barcelona - the latter stories following a recent claimed switch to agent Pini Zahavi. (They seldom feature unfounded gossip tbf) Looks decent and very promising, but this signing does suggest that our recruitment may be just as financially restricted as Eddie is suggesting. The College Dropout
Joelintin will definitely be an option at LW going forward. I hope Isak isn't an option there but the facts suggest otherwise. You do expect Wilson will have his minutes managed for his own fitness anyway so there will be less of him LW. I do think it's 1 in 1 out for LW and maybe wingers in general. There's no getting round that in the short term though, FFP, and the the way UEFA have structured financial renumeration heavily favours the existing big clubs. That means for a few years we will have to be creative to get the best talent around, which probably means aiming for up and coming talent ( like Isak for example) rather than the established superstars in world football. We just can't compete on wages alone for those.
Tiresias
Just have to be smarter than the others, and that's not actually that difficult tbh, it's why we went to Brighton for our DoF
AyeDubbleYoo
I wouldn't conclude anything about our strategy based on being linked to someone cheaper. We knew we wouldn't buy all superstars, doesn't mean we won't get one or two.

I can see us signing one CM, and Joel being used in CM as his more natural position. And a winger coming in for that to be so, just my take on it. Of course Joe, Isak and Willock could be used left, but i don't think that's how the squad will evolve. It's fascinating to see how it will go though, it's such a strange position to be in, knowing we'll sign very good players across the squad. Matt1892
If everyone was fully fit I think Joelinton would be first choice wide left, so I don’t see him there as cover.

His ball winning abilities would be more influential if he plays in midfield rather than near the lines. Edited June 1, 2023 by Solitude20
RobsonsWonderland
Remember we are a year or two ahead of where we expected to be so FFP, crap sponsorship deals and players we can't shift are all still on the table. Even Klopp needed 2.5 seasons to build and mold his team before they were the major force.
Willow
Will we be buying a striker this summer? Because we need to buy one. Brennan Johnson would be ideal, imo

I think we're building a squad to be ready to compete on all fronts. We must be able to rotate more when we're playing more matches. Then it's important to have players who can play in two, or more, positions. Can't belive I'm writing that first centance after all thoose dark years!? Young (22), tall (6’1”), athletic, 12 goals last season, in Bundesliga dream team, trains hard/good engine, great at decisive passing long or short, already an established international and captain as well. Attacking midfielder, but versatile (centre, left and right). Sounds like he might be on a Howe wish list. https://amp.bundesliga.com/en/bundesliga/news/dominik-szoboszlai-5-things-on-the-rb-leipzig-hungary-playmaker-13971 https://hungarytoday.hu/hungarian-footballer-in-the-bundesliga-dream-team/ Edited June 1, 2023 by Coffee_Johnny
