Looks decent and very promising, but this signing does suggest that our recruitment may be just as financially restricted as Eddie is suggesting.

There's no getting round that in the short term though, FFP, and the the way UEFA have structured financial renumeration heavily favours the existing big clubs. That means for a few years we will have to be creative to get the best talent around, which probably means aiming for up and coming talent ( like Isak for example) rather than the established superstars in world football. We just can't compete on wages alone for those.

Joelintin will definitely be an option at LW going forward.

I hope Isak isn't an option there but the facts suggest otherwise. You do expect Wilson will have his minutes managed for his own fitness anyway so there will be less of him LW.

I do think it's 1 in 1 out for LW and maybe wingers in general.

Unless we get some CM's in we're awfully light in that area, and that's just for the Premier League. I can see us signing one CM, and Joel being used in CM as his more natural position. And a winger coming in for that to be so, just my take on it.

Of course Joe, Isak and Willock could be used left, but i don't think that's how the squad will evolve. It's fascinating to see how it will go though, it's such a strange position to be in, knowing we'll sign very good players across the squad.

I think joelinton would be wasted there, as he could otherwise dominate the midfield. His ball winning abilities would be more influential if he plays in midfield rather than near the lines.

I think we're building a squad to be ready to compete on all fronts. We must be able to rotate more when we're playing more matches.

Then it's important to have players who can play in two, or more, positions.

Can't belive I'm writing that first centance after all thoose dark years!😄

Man Utd get Mount
Liverpool get Mac Allister

Arsenal get Rice

Man City get Kovacic

Chelsea get Ugarte

We get McTominay.

Maybe Howe will go for Caicedo.  He fits the "hipster" profile of wonderkids raising to be future stars like Botman, Bruno and Isak. Szoboszlai is in that shelf too.

New Scott Wilson piece on Dom. Not much new it seems, just seems to reiterate that he has intimated he is leaving and Newcastle seem to be very interested.

Young (22), tall (6’1”), athletic, 12 goals last season, in Bundesliga dream team, trains hard/good engine, great at decisive passing long or short, already an established international and captain as well. Attacking midfielder, but versatile (centre, left and right). Sounds like he might be on a Howe wish list.

Been 90% certain he will come ever since he liked that post about us winning against Brighton on instagram.

He’d be a sensational signing imo. Surprised none of the “bigger clubs” have been linked.

I hope Liverpool eff up and sign Gary MacAllister.  They could play him with Didier Baptiste if they sign him from Harchester United.

I used to love Dream Team.

I still refer to Alison King as Linda Block in anything she appears in.

100% agree. Makes the frontline and midfield worse at the same time. Not our best lineup. Why did we spend £45M on Anthony Gordon?

But Howe likes Joelinton at LW.

I expect to 2 CMs but Joelinton to play loads.

Would not be surprised seeing us lineup like this:

Joelinton - Isak - Szo/Maddison/new winger

Willock - Bruno - Longstaff/new CM

Burn/new LB - Botman - Schar - Trippier

Pope

I think the Joelinton/Willock left side combo is still one of his preferred tactical moves as in defense the two of them can cover literally 1/2 a pitch and then one or the other breaks forward from deep. Joelinton's ability to jump on Schar's long through balls is likely going to get further use too.

A very odd comment given the likes of Bernardo, Alvarez, Stones, Walker and de Bruyne have all been asked to play multiple different positions under Pep and excelled there [emoji38]

Then you've clearly not understood me.

Rodri lead City for league games this year and he's played - but for two games - DM. De Bruyne has played either CM or AM. I didn't say we should never sign versatile players. I said we have several that fit that mould, now we need specialists. That's why Pep spent 100m on a player that he's only using as a left winger.

It is not that Howe liked him there, it is more like other options were injured and he didn’t have much choice.

ASM and Isak were injured for much of the first half of the season, and then Almiron and ASM were out for much of the second half of the season.
