The answer has always been that West Ham should be sold the stadium in the condition that they basically demolish it and turn it into a football stadium.

Why does London need a World Class athletics track but elsewhere in the U.K. doesn’t?

Why don’t they develop the Linford Christie stadium, now that it’s apparent QPR won’t be allowed to build in the site. They are already building a new venue in Birmingham, and should be renovating the International stadium in Gateshead.

I mean, if West Ham pay back all the money taxpayers put in then sure.

That goes without saying, like I said, sell them it, but on conditions they actually turn it into a football stadium, and not just keep it the way it is and end up kicking the athletics out for no reason.

Real genius, this guy.

He won’t be there to ‘report’ on anything. I have no doubt there will be a stern eyed to camera acknowledgement of people’s concerns in between frothy montages, but for the most part Lineker is there in a cheerleading capacity. It’s not remotely comparable to being a fucking war reporter- the World Cup being ignored would harm the offending country; the war being ignored would enable it- and I can’t quite believe he is attempting to peddle such bogus logic.

Gary Lineker is one of the few in the public eye that tries to highlight the right things yet he gets nowt but snidey comments like because like the rest of us, its absolutely impossible to live a non hypocritical lifestyle.

Dumb comparison, but I’m tickled at the *travel* writer having a pop at anyone over climate change hypocrisy.

Aye, it's hardly an essential profession. But if he's travelling on general airlines he's not really adding to the problem. If he's going everywhere by private jet, different story.

The rest of us don't get an expenses paid trip to Qatar to do punditry on a football tournament, then excuse themselves as going there to do 'reporting' like they're Jeremy Bowen on the front line.

Yeah was a pretty silly analogy, but the idea that to be pure he shouldnt go does have a little weight but also is also the same argument that all newcastle fans including myself who do have some qualms about the ownership should boycott it completely. I use petrol, I use Amazon (trying to ween myself off it lol) I am a hypocrite. If you expect purity you can invalidate anyone anywheres argument about anything. As a human being Linekar is entitled to be critical of the world cup and also enjoy his job covering it and shouldnt have to apologise for taking pay he was offered by the bbc entirely of their own will.

Lineker gets a bad time from gammons who don’t like he’s on high wages and is left leaning, and to a similar extent hate the BBC because unlike Sky, they will still actually cover the left side of the political spectrum, or in reality won’t call the BAME and LBGTQ community Neanderthal like names like they wish.

In reality they are fine with money being doubled on presenters who are willing to do that.

At this point I actually think that anyone who gives him undue criticism is just one of the gammons in the Queue to lick the arses of Farage and Piers Morgan.

He gets shit from the left as well because he goes on like the stereotype of a liberal who's only bothered about the spectacle of civility and oratory, rather than anything substantive that would involve having any ideological consistency. E.g Pointing out how awful Trump was for doing something that Obama also did, someone he seemingly loves.
