João Pedro: NUFC "close-in" on transfer with negotiations at an advanced stage (Chronicle)

Hopefully just Brighton releasing stuff to press to hurry us up but probably not.

At some point we're going to have to start stumping up the money clubs want for players otherwise this is going to be a common theme.

Just checking the comments to that post and all the Chelsea fans under it are not happy that they’re going for him, makes it more annoying if they do get him because I think he would be brilliant for us

Chelsea’s approach is likely motivated in large part by stopping us from strengthening. We’re one of their closest rivals now and they’ll be terrified of us overtaking them so either taking our targets or driving up the fee for us is dreamland for them

I think they just rate our transfer business over the last couple of years so figure any player we have targeted must be worth having.

Just now, Deuce said:

If they beat us to Pedro, we’ll take Madueke at a cut-rate price thanks.

They'll then use that money to sign Elanga probably.

You'd think they'd go for Gittens OR Pedro but then..... it's fucking Chelsea, the rotten talent graveyard

I still believe we'll get him though, for £55m +5m add-ons :laugh2:

Depends what the level of quality is of the players behind the likes of Pedro, Elanga, Trafford.

If it's a fair drop off I don't see why we wouldn't pay the extra £15-20m to get them both Trafford and Pedro.

I'm not convinced we really need Elanga at £60m, Pedro feels like someone who would benefit us more.

We're probably already thinking of doing this, but a mix of cheaper European players and PL premium should hopefully be a good combination.

Nah. That sort of approach eventually fucks you. Our approach has worked from day one, and if we have to go elsewhere then so be it. Hasn’t stopped us moving forward in the past (Pedro is a prime example from last time), won’t stop us going forward.
