Watkins would probably be the best ‘here and now’ replacement we could get.

Whether that would be a sensible use of funds for the longer term is an entirely different matter.

Would be a bad long term move. What’s the point getting a PSR busting transfer only to blow a load on Watkins

The extent to which this fucking farce has fucked our summer, man.

Should be absolutely no mercy given to those Bin Dipping cunts when they come up here

wont be nice what I say, but first time in my life I will go into a game vs Liverpool in 3 weeks time thinking I dont mind if we leave one of their players injured. not proud of thinking it , but thats wht I feel right now.

a fucking big reducer on Salah early on followed by another on the smug face of McAllister. then Burns elbowing van Dijk at a corner accidentally, the ones van Dijk gets away with every other game since years you know.

Watkins is very good replacement as a player but would be a suicidal signing for a club in our position. Money immediately down the drain.

Would massively help Villa out too as I imagine they’re in a bit of PSR bother. They’ll demand a big fee for a 29 year old and be able to replace him with someone good and much younger.

Well we’ve rejected first bid. Nothing more we need to do, all over to Liverpool now. Assume any offer is direct to Yasir, so all on him surely?

I was thinking more if we will play hardball or bend over for them.

Watkins has just shy of a 1 in 2 goal record across five injury-free seasons. It's as safe a bet as you could wish to look for in this market and has the bonus of weakening a rival.

He could have done it the right way - played the season and gave Newcastle the opportunity to scout for his replacement.  He's ruined his legacy with the club.

IMO he already did tell the club privately he wanted to move this summer and we scouted/bid for players but missed out on them start of window. Then hes went full cunt mode

I just hope we/PIF dig in, much like Parish did last season with Guehi. I know its a slightly different situation, and Guehi didn't/hasn't acted the cunt, but he currently is still a Palace player, despite last summers farce.

Villa won’t sell to us, unless it’s an astronomical price.

Honestly not buying any of this "we're not bidding until the door is open" shite.  What they've actually done is spend the last fortnight orchestrating a coordinated campaign to cause as much unrest and animosity as possible in an attempt to force the price down and put NUFC in an impossible position.  We've clearly got to a point where they feel enough damage has been done now.  I think Romano is still playing the game because I seriously doubt that the opening bid is £120m.

Not sensible long term. But he could have  a great three years ahead of him and is going to be super motivated in World Cup year. I would be confident, with his playing style in our system, that he would score as many if not more than Isak.

Watkins is nearly 30 and is all about his physical attributes. He's going to hit a wall very soon. We will get gouged for £50 million+ for him that we will never get a return on. It's the type of signing where you might as well just give up IMO.

Honestly I wouldn't be totally against selling Isak for the right fee if I had the slightest inclination the club were running a slick recruitment operation and knew what they were doing in the market. The reason we're in this position, with a world class player potentially going for a British record fee, is because of targeting players of the right ilk and the right age bracket and allowing Eddie to elevate them. Player trading is a clear way out of FFP.

so what, we'd rather buy a 22 year old because of the potential profit we'd make by selling him on in a few years?

PSR has broke your brains. fucking grim modern football

You're talking about spending £50m on a player past their peak. PSR is the environment we're in, no good ignoring it or throwing up your hands.

Hoping the same - not out of any affection for Isak but because it's clearly the best option on the table for us with the market how it is + the psychological impact of selling to a rival

Expecting to be disappointed, though.

We can only get one striker in the Wissa/Watkins age range imo - getting 2 strikers who are 29/30 is absolutely mental in our position. They will have no resale value in 3-4 years and can you imagine how expensive they'll be to replace then?
