Watkins would be a ready made signing, but Villa would rinse us and his age goes against him, sadly.

Reminds me of Andy Cole being sold this - more so in the fact that we played Man United at home straight after (we face Liverool in a few weeks at home) Cole was told to miss that game on police advice, after the two clubs agreed. He always scored against us to, when he later faced us. :(

Isak will do same.

Makes sense because we need to replace guaranteed goals with guaranteed goals. Taking a punt on a project player could backfire very easily, which is why I’m pretty lukewarm on Sesko.

He’s gonna be in decline in a couple of seasons. We don’t need to replace. If Watkins is our only and last resort just don’t sell Isak. We have choice

Are we just continuing this assumption that the decision makers are braindead imbeciles, then? That they've suddenly forgotten about PSR despite having every single decision be completely dictated by it for the last two years?

If they want Watkins then I'll happily just assume we've got the headroom to do it.

£100 mil plus whatever price it takes to get a replacement in. Like a true replacement, I'm not talking about Wissa.

Clubs know this is in the offing so they're gonna take the piss with prices whether Isak has already been sold or not.

Edit: Basically the same shit they pulled with Chelsea for the Torres deal.

You're talking about spending £50m on a player past their peak. PSR is the environment we're in, no good ignoring it or throwing up your hands.

past their peak? are you serious? it's impossible to know that. he's 29 ffs, not 39

so what, we'd rather buy a 22 year old because of the potential profit we'd make by selling him on in a few years?

PSR has broke your brains. fucking grim modern football

That's literally what we did with Isak himself. It's literally our only option if we ever want to bridge the gap. No point ignoring this reality.

Apparently it's £60m now and £60m next season, plus addons.

Fucking cunts.

If thats the case then that surely says they're a million miles away from what we supposedly want

Imagine how weak they look if they buckle to something like this now

Would be a bad long term move. What’s the point getting a PSR busting transfer only to blow a load on Watkins

Yes, it’s difficult to disagree with that view.

However, if I was playing devils advocate - Watkins and Wissa, plus some reasonable additions elsewhere, would give us a chance of a run in this years CL as well as the potential to qualify again next season.

If we were able to pull that off and be in a strong financial position to go again next summer (hopefully with a proper compliment of backroom staff…), we’d have possibly made the best of a difficult situation.

Regardless it’s a risk and not how we operate it. Again there’s zero point getting £150m for Isak to blow £60m on a 29 year old and then moan about PSR when he’ll need replaced in a couple of years

You're forgetting that the decision they'd be making at this point (Watkins) would be outside of what they consider an ideal decision. You're talking about it being nigh on their last resort.

I reckon it will end up around £130m and Nunez, I think Eddie could get a tune out of him, and then spend the rest on the Brentford lad, a centre half and another midfielder

Nunez ? No thanks [emoji38]

We should learn from our betters at Liverpool, just like their fans tell us.

Either we do what they did with Suarez which is tell both the player and Arsenal to go jump in a ditch or we do the Torres style deal like you suggested.

Liverpool trying to outflank and use a pincer movement of player pressure and time to try and pressure us to fold. I’m relaxed as he still has 3 years left on his contract but anything could happen. I hope he stays one more season.

If Isak goes, to me Ollie Watkins and Yoane Wissa are about as perfect as you can get to guaranteeing PL goals. Don’t get the hate at all.

Re: Watkins, I admittedly don’t fully understand PSR, but why would it be PSR suicide? £60m on a 29 year old who scores tonnes of goals… even if we get two good, European qualifying, years out of him and sold him in a couple of years for £40m… isn’t that better than taking a £70m risk on some random kid who’s had a decent season in Porto or Leipzig who may or may not become a great player?

All I know is Watkins + Wissa excites me a lot of more than Sesko + Wissa, and excites me more than keeping a disgruntled Isak.
