How are the other players going to feel/act if he comes back and gets a bumper new contract!? Id be fucking raging if I was them

Thankfully it wont be the outcome

That probably depends on how many scorelines between now and then include the phrase "Newcastle 0."

If it's lots then they'd need to show enough humility to realise they need him in the team. If they really want him binned off then they need to start putting chances away and weaken his position.

Fwiw my gut feeling is the same as you, this gets resolved without a new contract.

No approach will overrule him having a 3 year contract. We could burn an effigy of him and we'd still hold all of the power.

Yes but I’d rather make the situation easier for the club, Howe and his teammates rather than my own feelings on the whole sordid tale.

A new contract with lower wage but with high bonuses for good performances would be interesting, probably would sit better with our other players as well, knowing he'll have to perform to earn his money.

Only problem with that is the drama that'll follow if Isak doesn't get to play..

I think it would be ideal if we could give him a small increase in wage but with heavy performance incentives to get the best out of him and then if he's still here past next summer his basic wage is increased as part of the deal.

And that’s all Sky and the journos need… the money shot. The fans foolishly gave them it.

Just put your emotions to one side and get through the window then see where we are at and whinge then if you* need to…

*Not you per say

Yeah, definitely wasn't me "per se", but I'm not going to be too critical of those that did- main thing was they supported the players during/after the game.

Probably a promise that we would release him next summer from his terrible fate of getting rich, famous, and being (once) adored by a passionate fan base, might be enough.

first off, if the move doesn’t happen, he is then reintegrated we need to see whatever PR nonsense or statements come out.

Secondly, he’s going to obv need to make amends with Eddie and the squad. If that is genuine, we will find out.

And finally, the fans have every right to make whatever statement or noise towards him - it’s our football club not his. Ignoring the behavior and sweeping it under a rug is the opposite of how you’re supposed to handle this.

He will deserve whatever reaction he gets, again, and then I think the fanbase needs to move on and support the entire squad - whoever Eddie picks.

I’m not sure he has the guts to come back and play for us. Will just say he’s got mental health issues and stay away “injured”.

We’d need to pokerface the fuck out of him. It’s a hell of a cut your nose off move to opt out of one of your 12 or so peak years on the big stage.

And for what it is worth, the old kingdom of Bernica (North of river Tees up through Northumberland) was never taken/settled by the Vikings, in the way the rest of the old Kingdom of Northumbria was. Take note, Alex my boy, we have a long history of standing firm against Scandi-tyranny.

If he came back he’d need a fall guy, his agent. Saying he was badly advised and all that bullshit. Probably 1% chance of this happening and 99% he’s away. His behaviour, like Wissa’s, is abhorrent and incredibly unprofessional.

Isak could sack his agent, get a magpie tattooed to his forehead and sign a binding lifelong contract with us, we would still need to sign another CF this month. We can't go into the champions League and the heavy fixture list with only him plus Gordon/Osula. As things stand we urgently need two.

I'd think some sort of message would be fine. I don't like the idea of booing or chanting negative stuff during the game while he is playing though. It'd be distracting for the players on the pitch, and besides, they know Isak on a personal level and regardless how we feel, he probably have close friends in the squad that also likely wouldn't appriciate us spew hatred over him for a prolonged time, even if he deserves it.

It's a reward for acting like a massive cunt all summer , fuck him I wouldn't pay him a penny more . He can get his big wage increase when he leaves next summer .

It's not. It's paying him on merit based on being one of the top strikers in the world for the last 2 years.

Isak getting stick doesn't automatically mean him not coming back, but it's his amends to make, not ours.

If he's happy to change his mind and play another season that's enough amends for me. I had sort of figured he might be gone next year anyway. I realise others might not share that sentiment.

I don’t want to see us chanting about Isak on Monday, not because I think it’ll affect things in any way. I just think all our focus needs to be on our team that wants to play for us and when we’re out of possession we focus on Liverpool. Happy to join in chants about isak after the match

Honestly I think it will be hard enough to get a result on Monday with the fans fully behind the team instead of focusing on Isak. He's not going to be there anyway. The only winners in such a situation will be Liverpool and their scumbag fans.

Offering him a new contract at this stage would be like proposing to someone immediately after they cheated on you tbh.

I'm a long way from being able to stomach seeing him up front for us again personally, a pay rise shouldn't even be on the agenda right now.

With Howe in charge I know he'll have done what's required behind the scenes to be backed once he returns.

Would it still annoy me the way he's gone about this summer, yes. That said, if Eddie is happy to have him back in then that's good enough for me

Yeah, there's no way we can let the window shut with him still here and give him a new contract, that can't happen now.

I wonder, as it gets closer to the window closing, if other teams will come in to try to take him on loan if we make it clear he's not going to Liverpool. Surely, Chelsea, for example, would love to take him on loan and can offer us Jackson in return.

Since the start of this saga I've always presumed that a big new contract and maybe a release clause are prerequisites for getting him back involved. That becomes harder when you start to miss games but we're still not in an unprecedented situation: it feels fairly common for players to want a big move, come back late from pre-season, maybe mess about with their social media accounts and even miss the first few games before giving up and reintegrating with the squad. Right now our striker search seems to have gone from desperate to dead in the water, and I'll add that after all of the moves that have been made this summer - Pedro, Ekitike, Sesko, Gyokeres, David, Osimhen, Delap plus the likes of Larsen, Guessand and Kalimuendo - I don't see the situation being much more hospitable for us next summer.
