I’ve just had a guy to me on twitter suggest he’s never going to play for us again even if he stays past the window & to keep match fit for the World Cup , Sweden will arrange kickabouts for him & he actually thinks it’s not a ludicrous suggestion

If these "kickabouts" are not within FIFA's official international fixture windows, the club is perfectly entitled to refuse to allow him to play - that poster is in cloud cuckoo land if he thinks thats happening

I’m more concerned with winning things too, but I still view that those who actually travel up and down the country and spend a massive chunk of their hard-earned are a better litmus test than someone like me.  That’s the club’s hardcore support.

Just because they have the opportunity to travel and spend money doesn’t make their opinion worth more or make them anymore “important” of a fan than the next person. We really need to get off this high horse.

Yes, it's the people responding to the instigation who are on their high horse. Not the person thousands of miles from Newcastle, without any provocation, dismissing the opinions of our away fans and calling them coked up kids.

It'd be career suicide for Isak to refuse to play all season. He'll never be properly match fit for Sweden and who's going to want him next summer after he boycotted his club for an entire season?

I think it would be a mistake to assume he cares all that much about Sweden. Agree that it is highly unlikely he refuses to play though, the worry would be about his commitment/effort/the effect on the morale of the group if he comes back.

It still looks like the best option to me, though. Will ultimately trust Eddie with that call.

Club lawyers should be looking into any loopholes to not release him for internationals regardless. Highly likely his first game this season will be for Sweden in the September internationals

Only two Yoane Wissa’s. Two Yoane Wissa’s 🎵

Makes me think of the old Andy Goram chants. "There's only 2 Andy Gorams ,2 Andy Gorams" I think he had mild schizophrenia. Not funny.

The worst thing about all this… nothing much seems to have happened?!! It wasn’t a fall out between the manager, or other player, it wasn’t a mediocre season, he hadn’t shown signs of being unsettled before, he hadn’t played out of position, it wasn’t a new manager etc. it defies logic which is why he has very little sympathy. And why he is greedy because even if you feel you’re underpaid the professionalism is Peter Odemwingie levels not someone who wants to be one of the best in the world. Not sure his reputation will recover from this.

I've not been convinced we're trying to replace him since we missed out on Sesko.

Think he stays now and it's probably why he's thrown a wobbler.

Yup. Manure & Liverpool have blocked his move. Get over it, Alex. You're here for another season, and if you throw a wobbler, refuse to play or don't put the effort in, then you're here for all 3 years of your contract.

Play your way into the move you want. £150m is the price, and that's set for the next 2 seasons.

This is why I'm very curious to hear what this supposed other side of the story is - we'd have gotten wind long before the random kick-off of madness a month ago.

As mad as that sounds, it wouldn't surprise me if that's his backup plan. He clearly has contempt not just for his teammates and Howe, but the fans and everything associated with our club.

We don't really need to replace him though, he's got a contract for 3 more years. I'm sure if we could get in someone of a good enough quality we might have accomodated him, but there's not much we can do if every striker we approach has chosen to go elsewhere.

As for throwing a wobbler, if we ignore some of the more insane theories, he hasn't actually said anything publicly. When the window closes we'll see if all these stories he's never playing for us again are true or just scaremongering.

It's bizarre TBH, and we achieved everything we aimed for and more, CL qualification and a trophy.

On the other hand it maybe paves the way for a reconciliation since he hasn't really fallen out with anyone. Or at least he hadn't before he kicked this off

The whole thing is bizarre because, unless we’re all massively mistake, there’s not even a bid on the table for him worth discussing.

Its a lot of noise about nothing until there’s £150m bid.

Until then, it is what it is.

Yep, his lack of leverage contractually has probably led to these extreme claims he’d never play for us again. They’ve not really had any other option to try and force our hand.

As had been stated he’s not on record saying anything himself.

If he does come back and play for us, I dont think its right to be booing and chanting abuse. It's going to be hard enough for him to change his mind and even though we all cant stand him, we need to get behind him for the good of the team.

12 days to go before he has to come crawling back or give up on his career and oodles of money (looks like about 7Mpounds per year, so 21 M).

Maybe the poor lamb will have to wait tables or perhaps he could get a side hustle as a washing line prop.
