Should have just given Palace a bit more earlier in the window so they had time to replace him, and get someone as cover for Ekitike. Hell, they could have even got Woltemade. They bought him because they could. They didn’t stop to think about whether or not they should.

Salah and Gakpo don’t suit Isak. They don’t look for him early at all. Wirtz on the left and Frimpong in the side somewhere would suit Isak a lot more. 2 players that would look for him early. Gakpo and Wirtz doesn’t work either.

Sibierski
Having watched him yesterday, I just can’t see how it clicks for him there. There was a position stat that came up, which showed he was operating primary off the right, Salah area Just strange. As soon as Etitike was on, and even after Isak went off, Etitike was coming in off left and was much more of a threat. There’s no doubt in my mind Etitike is the better player for Liverpool with Salah on RW. Isak is playing like he’s expecting first time crosses from Murphy still, which won’t happen at Liverpool. Maybe would’ve if TAA was still there, but that’s gone too. Quite confident by season end, there will be legit questions raised if Liverpool look to cut losses on Isak when he’s a clear number 2 to Etitike. Salah/Bradley on the right and Gakpo on the left stink for Isak. Etikite is better suited to play with Salah. Better at linking up, playing wall passes and such. Stottie
Ekitike coming on a sub yesterday looked like he was on a mission to shoot on sight and not set anyone up. A big eScouser moan recently has been about Gakpo predictably cutting inside and how they need a "proper" left winger. Gakpo alone was 80% of their goal threat in this match. Based on Ekitike's Bundesliga finishing and the ill fit of Isak who'll have to be persevered with due to the fee, I can't see either getting many more than 12-13 this season in the league. This contrasts with 11 goals and 8 assists from 2000 minutes in Klopp's last season from yes, the one and only Darwin Nunez.
AyeDubbleYoo
Letting Diaz go seemed a very weird move considering he was probably playing his best football for them.
Stottie
Here is Isak's touch map yesterday. He only touched the ball once in the left side of the field. That famous dribble against Everton was down the left touchline. Presumably this below is Slot's doing. This is picked at random, but here is the 3-3 against Liverpool at SJP last season. Kid Icarus
There's a JLA video on it. Basically they have 4 players (Wirtz, Ekitike, Ratman, Gakpo) whose main strengths are picking up the ball in that inside left channel, in space, while Salah on the opposite side doesn't track back and doesn't suit the other players. Would love nothing more for the entire thing to be a complete disaster and for it to never work. Their starting forward line should probably be Gakpo, Ekitike, Chiesa, but it seems like they'd rather save face with their big name players/signings than do what's most effective. They had to let him go because of age and the contract situation. If they werent extending his contract on better wages then he had to be sold. Isak was a bit of a splurge, and once they got Ekitike, they should've stopped chasing Isak. But, once he went on strike they had to go through with it. They should've gone for Guehi, a DM/CM, a RW, and a backup striker. Their team would've been way more balanced. They probably need to drop another 300 million to sort their team out now with Salah and VVD leaving soon. Once you're down that rabbit hole, it's tough to get out without just throwing money at it. Just look at Man Utd/Chelsea etc Arteta has had to spend a billion pounds just to get Arsenal where they are now.

Aye I don't see why they would care about us being saddled with a player who refused to play for us just because they'd shown an interest in him. In fact from their POV you could argue they played an absolute blinder unsettling our top scorer and then going in for someone else instead. Isak’s behaviour is his problem. He's paying for it now, for club and Country. Long may it continue.
