All this stuff about pre-season, Carragher pointed this out the other week, what about players returning from injury? A player could easily be out for longer than the summer break and they don't have a pre-season. I've never heard anyone give an injured player an excuse that they still have to get fit after returning three/four months ago.

Also, with Isak there's not an ounce of body fat on him, so it's not like he got really out of shape over the summer like other players.

IT

IS

DECEMBER

You could say this in August. Maybe September at a push. But firstly he WAS training, just on his own, and secondly IT'S FUCKING DECEMBER.

Are we still going to be hearing this shit in March? What about next September, will it be "But he missed pre-season last year"?

When's the cutoff? Because for me it was about 3 months ago.

While it's great that Isak is doing shit at Liverpool, I don't really want to revel in Ekitike's success too much considering the cunt's swiped him from under our noses.

Nah, a pre season is essentially just a handful of games to get match fit. That’s all it is. High intensity training and a few matches usually not more than 60 mins. It’s been blown up in to something way more than it actually is. He’s now played in 18 games if he’s still not sharp or in form that’s something way beyond not having a preseason.

Reminder Tonali missed a full season and the following preseason.

I think preseason is more than that tbh, it’s the longest that coaches of teams in Europe probably get to work with their players outside of just preparing for the next game. You can work on patterns of play and the style you want to impose on games.

Once the season starts, esp if you don’t start well, you are caught reacting to opposition and circumstance rather than pure time on the training pitch.

All that said, I have zero sympathy for him

I don't know why people are still trying to make excuses for him, he's been pony since the cup final, we all thought he was injured and then presumed it was because his head was turned, but now it starting to look like maybe that's just him now?

Yes, he was class for us for a solid couple of seasons, but you can't overlook the Howe effect, we made excuses for him because we were willing him to find that form again, but now I'm considering we got shot at the right time.

While that’s true that does not account for his lack of fitness also players more to new clubs late in the window and even deadline day so don’t get all that time to work with the new players so nah it’s just excuses

Him not spending time in the summer working on tactics with Liverpool doesn’t explain why the half arsed cunt is sauntering round the pitch at a trot, can’t head or kick a ball straight and gets tackled any time he takes the ball near an opposition player

The alternative time line has him signing a 200k week deal with us for one more season and then he gets his big move probably on >400k per week to Barca/Bayern who would likely play to his strengths in leagues which are physically more forgiving and he'd be remembered here as the best since Shearer and go on to be a global football superstar.

Instead, he scorched earthed his way to a team that didn't need him to play with team mates who didn't want him, the notoriously savage press in this country are already mocking him and labelling him as a flop and his body language doesn't indicate that he has to stomach for the fight to turn the narrative.

Yes, he got his move and the riches that come with it, but make no mistake, this will be hurting him

He's just a lazy half arsed player that liverpool have had a mare in signing. Fuck knows who scouted him, Isak will be thinking I can't just waltz around here they've started having a go already. 😂

Such a shame he got ideas above his station as he'd of gone down as an absolute hero here.

Imagine trading the adoration of thousands and more money than you can spend, for even more money than you can spend and being universally disliked and ridiculed.

It could have been so different if he had had some level of common decency with how he left the club. I hope he serves as a perfect example to others that are thinking of following his path, that this is what could await you.

They aren’t finding excuses for Isak, they are finding excuses for themselves.

With Isak, it’s all mentality at this point. He’s downs tools generally. Maybe he’s actually depressed.

Not that it sound excuse anything but it might explain a few things.

He got on the ball at one point last night with a bit of space near the edge of the box, first touch put the ball just to his right with what he would consider a shooting opportunity at his best...and he rolled it a few yards to a team mate in a less good position. Confidence must be fucked

I love the fact they paid 130m for an elite box finisher who they don't pass the ball to in the box.

That's what it comes down to at the end of the day. He's a finisher, our team was built around getting supply to him. They don't do that at Liverpool.

Plus there is also a chance he might just be physically shot and not capable of doing the twists and turns he did for us a year ago when he would go on jinking runs. In his last 6 months here we didn't see much of that either.

Ideally, they both get career-ending injuries, leaving Liverpool without a recognised striker.

What's wild is at the time it didn't feel like we were getting the best out of Isak ourselves.

Not so bad in hindsight.

His last goal shows what he can do imo, even with whatever stage he's at now. Even if they do get the ball to him in the box the wingers have taken so long to get there and move it so slowly its packed and no one is running backwards. We pulled opposition players out wide to give him more space and gave him the chances to hit that target when the ball went in. Its like they never watched him play.

FBRef says Salah is second in the league for completed passes into the box. And about third for throughballs.

So Liverpool must pass it into the box, just presumably not to Isak.

Talking about lack of pre-season when we are in December is obviously bullshit. But I guess it's not hard to imagine that the whole saga had a huge impact on him mentally.

Still think the main thing is him missing the service he recieved here. Last season with us the goals were only really the only thing he brought to the table. Half of those were either tap-ins from a perfectly placed pass by Murphy or penalties.

He'll be buzzing Salah is likely to be away. Might have half a shout at a pen now and again.

Not the way Szoboszlai stuck that one away last night. Although I doubt he has as much of an ego as Salah, so maybe he’d let him take a pity pen at some point if they were already comfortably ahead.
