When has it backfired?

The only exmaples I can think of a consequential player actually downing tools for an extended period because they wanted out was a washed up C Ronaldo (who was already being phased out) and Tevez (who came back and played a key role at the most important part of the season anyway)

Not going to discuss anymore as it’s pointless as it’s a subject that divides opinion passionately, some want him to stay because of what he has done and will never change their opinion and some hate what he has done and won’t change their opinion either, it is what it is now.

I don't mind us doing 1 experienced head proven in the PL at the right price. But we should be replacing him with somebody of a similar profile to Isak himself 3 years ago. And ideally also using some of the money towards some proper recruitment in CB and CM to elevate the overall squad.

Splashing most of the fee on two strikers who potentially will never get us any financial return is just suicidal long term.

The reason we keep getting backed into PSR corners is because of the fact we started from zero at takeover and don't have assets. We had so many players who were worth nothing that we couldn't shift. Hell we still have some of them. So we keep getting into situation where clubs can exploit us for the few assets we do have - IE Gordon last year. Only the emergence of an academy player and a well scouted punt the year before got us out of that hole.

You can navigate these situations so much better when you build up a squad where most players have a value and a market and you can be more selective with who you trade and sell.

Bingo. It’s very likely that Watkins + Wissa would perform really well this season, but then we’d be stuck with aging players that clubs are less and less interested in.

We do not have the luxury of making short term decisions and, unfortunately, the clubs with a lot more money than us have mostly stopped buying older, expensive players.

Selling our best player to the best team in the league at a reduced fee and then spending a chunk of that money on a near 30 year old from our most immediate rival is just about the dumbest 1-2 punch I can think of.

Surely refusing to train with the team whilst being under contract and clearly being able to constitutes a breach of contract too?

Easy enough to take a sicknote, which is the "official reason" why he didn't go on the tour.

I just think it’s completely unacceptable to allow them all to get what they want now. The approach to this from Isak, his agent and Liverpool (and the media) has been so bad that we can’t possibly reward them with the outcome they want.

If I was Yasir I would be absolutely foaming.

I know he will go there eventually like, but it’s annoying.

There aren’t any though, that’s the problem. Which is why Isak should not be sold for any amount. Which means if PIF do sell then they have indeed been a soft touch with this.

So he stays and I'm pretty sure he will unless we do get the players in

We can still sign those, as the values are amortised over the years. So whether we clear more of in first year, or 2nd year (next) has same impact. Would say 2nd year has a better impact for us because it’s one year less on Isak fee and one year further on the three year rolling. On top of planning for the spending better.

My position hasn't shifted one bit mind, no matter what we can't sell to Liverpool and reward the behaviour of both players and club.

No one else interested this summer it's fine, I'll take the hit and sell next season.

That's nonsense. We have to sell Isak this summer or next. I've said this a few times but the club is not at a revenue level where it can afford to renew Isak. The move here is get £150m and then spend it wisely across a number of positions.

Don't need Isak funding for either as far as we've been told by the likes of Keiran Maguire.

The idea of giving this recruitment team more money is absolutely batshit at this point like.

Without exaggeration we're into double figure rejections and failures, with about 7 or 8 of them being strikers, and 9th and/or 10th on our list now being expected to replace Alexander fucking Isak.

I don’t want any part of this looking like a W for Liverpool. Hold firm and gouge their eyes out if they want him.

Yep. Really they shouldn’t be allowed to get him at all, but if they do it has to be a price that’s clearly excessive.

They aren't a soft touch though. If he being sold it's either because Howe doesn't want him in the squad now, or PIF are accepting the rigged PSR system and will look to trade their way into the top echelons. They might even have accepted they are not going to be Number 1 now.

150m or nowt

If they can't afford him, why buy Ekitike? There was our replacement.

They can't be allowed to buy our replacement and then take Isak for under our valuation. Newcastle have to dig in even if it means having an unsettled player for a while.

If this was happening next summer I’d agree with you. But the current circumstances and the way this has played out means he shoudn’t be allowed to go, no matter what.

It doesn’t really matter what the fee is if we can’t replace him this window. It’ll be another Carroll situation.

If we do sell him in this window I want to see some fucking intent from this board though. There has to be some positives in terms of player arrivals on the back of it.

Yes but make that £200 million just for the inconvenience.

Dreading him banging in goals and everyone starts saying "bargain at £120m in today's market"

Fuck off selling him cheap man. I wouldn't be selling him at all domestically unless it was £180m.
