As I’ve said before, of all our “purples” Isak is the one I’d be most wary of losing as he’s irreplaceable, whereas I think the likes of Gordon, Bruno, Botman and even Tonali would be missed but could be replaced with similar quality players allowing to further develop the squad. I think in essence Isak would like to stay and won’t go all out to push for a move. However the obvious factors involved would probably end up driving a move if we don’t get champions league. I agree he’s the hardest to replace but then players like him don’t come along that often. Money talks in football eventually though.
aussiemag
I think any players costing 100 mill or more need to be players that create/score an elite amount of goals. Players like Rice and Caicedo are excellent players, but both Arsenal and Chelsea have overpaid given their output in an attacking sense.
AyeDubbleYoo
I love all our players except Longstaff, but Isak is the one who is irreplaceable if we want to continue to challenge for the CL places. Replace him with a normal striker and it’s possible we don’t get anywhere near. Hopefully the calculations of who we can afford to sell and keep will take this into account. In hindsight, i dont think that is value given PSR limitations. You can find an elite DM for 50 mill and spend big on an Isak/Haaland etc.

Rice and Zubimendi together is like when Southgate used to play rice and Phillips together, it’s solid but lacks creativity. Just seen this. Arteta copping load of flak for signing too many defensive players and not strengthening the attack... another £50m DM will do the trick.

Arsenal a couple seasons ago looked generally brilliant. I'm not saying that's his fault, but it's a consequence of what they did in the market and that includes buying Rice for £100m. Bruno and Tonali are not worth that either, it's only a handful of clubs who can afford to pay it, a team like Villa would be insane to spend that on either of them for example. I wonder if they might try and upgrade their wings and buy a striker at a lower rate e.g Gyokores or Watkins/Vlahovic while having a bit of a clear out. An Isak purchase basically ruins them PSR wise and means that’s probably all they can improve position wise. I'm explaining myself poorly here and it reads harsher on Rice than it needs to be. Rice is a great player, it's his price and their spendin in general that's the issue. They seem to have fucked their squad up during a time they could have spent wisely and kicked on. Edited 17 hours ago by Hanshithispantz

If his name was Kristiano Treeze they’d be all over him. Edited 17 hours ago by DevonGeordie

Bruno's a different kind of midfielder, has some obvious weaknesses, and isn't as 'complete', but Tonali can pretty much be directly compared. If offered now I wouldn't swap either for him. Agree. I rate Rice, but wouldn't swap him for Tonali. There's talk that with Bruno, Tonali and Joelinton we have the best midfield in the PL, and that's coming from outsiders not Newcastle fans. I think it's a stretch to include Joelinton as an elite midfielder, but combined with the other two, it must be pretty formidable to come up against. In games where we face a low block, we should be replacing him with someone with more technical ability.
