Would love to hear the VAR audio on that for their justification that he isn't interfering. You can literally see Leno waiting to see if Akanji is going to touch it before he dives. Refs in this country are not fit for purpose.

Genuinely one of the best players in the world. So annoyed we didn’t get him.. Loads on here didn’t rate him, for whatever reason though.

To be fair, while in purely footballing terms he has undeniable talent he does have red flags which mean he would never have worked for us.

Firstly, I don't think his personality would have suited this group. I also think to get the best out of him you need to build the attack around him. Howe has never wanted to build us around one player.

How is that not interfering? I remember when Tiote got one disallowed ironically against City.

It was Gouffran or someone who was deemed to stand in goalkeepers line of sight. Ridiculous decision that also, no one was saving that hit.

Then Mam City scored an even more obvious one a week or so later which stood. Do you spot a pattern ?

interfering with an opponent by:

preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing the opponent’s line of vision or

challenging an opponent for the ball or

clearly attempting to play a ball which is close when this action impacts on an opponent or

making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball

a player moving from, or standing in, an offside position is in the way of an opponent and interferes with the movement of the opponent towards the ball this is an offside offence if it impacts on the ability of the opponent to play or challenge for the ball; if the player moves into the way of an opponent and impedes the opponent's progress (e.g blocks the opponent) the offence should be penalised under Law 12

a player in an offside position is moving towards the ball with the intention of playing the ball and is fouled before playing or attempting to play the ball, or challenging an opponent for the ball, the foul is penalised as it has occurred before the offside offence

an offence is committed against a player in an offside position who is already playing or attempting to play the ball, or challenging an opponent for the ball, the offside offence is penalised as it has occurred before the foul challenge

So the logic is that he didn't make a deliberate attempt at trying to play the ball, but rather tried to avoid the ball? And the keepers vision was not really obstructed?
