I've only been a fan for 20 years but the game I fell in love with isn't this.

I'll be honest everything you've all been saying this summer is how I felt a decade ago. Granted it seems like it's gotten worse. (Somehow)

I watched the highlights of the game against Villa this morning and though to myself why am I doing this

Respect that Arsenal took the train to Manchester for this.

Should see more of that and less of teams flying.

How did they cope with the Man Utd fans making the journey on the same train?

Chelsea could be a worry for keeping Eddie.

Eddie wouldn't go there in a million years. I feel like the only job he may consider leaving us for is the England job, in this country. Obviously, he'd be tempted if Real or Barca ever came calling.

I can’t see him going to Chelsea, just because there is no legacy there to leave behind with the managers only ever lasting 18/24 months.

I can easily see him at any of the others though.

I also think the England link is overplayed. He wants day to day hands on work, he doesn’t want to go missing 2-3 months at a time to have 2 weeks with the lads.

Exactly, you had much more variety in the teams finishing in the top 6 vs 30 years ago.

1992/93 season had Villa 2nd and Norwich 3rd.

The 1990's was a great decade.

- The end of Liverpool dominance
- Forest winning cups but then getting relegated

- The emergence of Blackburn then relegation

- Newcastle going from nothing to European elite and then back to mediocrity
- Villa, Leeds, Norwich, Forest, Leeds, Newcastle, Blackburn, Ipswich all finishing in the top 5, as well as Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea. Even Sunderland finished top 7.

12 very different clubs - and in that decade there were eras of challengers - Blackburn era, Newcastle, Arsenal, Leeds and Chelsea. Liverpool were always decent but never at the very top until Benitez, mostly a cup team.

In the last decade - it's only between Liverpool and Man City, with the odd Chelsea or Arsenal or Man U challenge. Even Spurs never really had a title challenge except that Leicester city season. Anyone else may sneak in to CL spots one season - Villa, Newcastle, Leicester, but very rare to keep themselves there.

Even FA cup winners of the 90's - Crystal Palace, Spurs, Everton alongside the Arsenal's, Man Utd, Chelsea - and some of the finalists - Forest, Sunderland, Sheffield Wed, Middlesbro, Newcastle

So boring and becoming such a closed shop.

Putting microphones on the refs for VAR.

Who was in favour of that? I’ll bet literally nobody.

How did it happen?

People bitched and moaned about other sports doing it.

So football followed suit to provide the crowd with VAR transparency.

It's still transparently shit...

It’s so ingrained . I made the pilgrimage to White Hart Lane on a bit of a whim yesterday because I was genuinely excited about the new season. If we weren’t completely skint (new puppy plus other stuff) we’d probably have tried to get tickets for either Spurs or Leyton Orient. There’s still something important there, but it’s buried under heaps of manure.

I agree, don't ever see him managing Chelsea. Spurs or Villa if the timings ever aligned for that to happen I could see. Won't ever be considered for any other cunty 6 club though.

I've no doubt if he leaves us at the end of the season he would take over from Tuchel. Would seem too good to turn down if he were out of work. He'd have two full years to build towards a Euros.

Football died when the terracing vanished, and players started earning more than half a million a year. Respect for managers diminished and (at the top of Football anyway) many players have lost motivation due to them being rich before their career even starts. Season tickets cost more than the average mortgage and the 'steak' in the pies is mystery meat.

On the bright side however, keepers can't pick up a passback anymore, and Donald Trump is a Chelsea legend. Which is nice.
