The Prophet
Hope we get it wrapped up this weekend. That Everton game has the potential to be a slog. We'll do it, buy it'd be nice to be as stress free as possible.

PRL
7 minutes ago, STM said: Apart from beating Arsenal, is there any other scenario where we qualify this weekend whilst not picking up points? Match or better both Forest and Villa and we are there bar a 16 goal swing on last day. Forest and Villa lose before we play and we’ve qualified effectively edit: same applies on unrealistic goal swings required if forest draw as well. So Villa lose, forest don’t win, arsenal game is something of a party unless we lose by 8 Edited 12 hours ago by PRL
Displayname
If Villa lose and either Chelsea or Forest drop points its done in all but theory. Edited 11 hours ago by Displayname
ramirez
Realistically a Villa draw would make it practically certain unless there’s a crazy swing. edit would still need a point Edited 11 hours ago by ramirez
midds
Man U have only beaten 1 team outside of the relegation teams since the middle of December (Fulham away). They're losing their last 2 games, they're absolute pigshit
midds
In fact, they've only beaten 4 teams NOT in the relegation zone all season. City, Fulham (twice), Everton and Brentford. That's abysmal by any measures you care to use

If anything, both are desperate for some momentum going into the final, which with CL on the line is far more monumental for them than anything they have played in for quite some time. My guess is that they will both go for it first half and look to bring off vital players in the second to rest them. I don't think it would make sense for them to just play peripheral players from the start. Were there no final, both teams would be in "beach" mode, assuming such thing exists. Just us and finals, but we went into the Carabao final against Man U after two draws and a defeat in the league. Before Liverpool, we won two and lost one (at Liverpool), and also lost the FA cup game against Brighton. Our approach and energy on the field were vastly superior in the second final despite us facing better opposition.

Interpolic
A lot of people in this thread assume every game is played on paper. Except ours They're proven wrong almost every week but never shift their outlook. It's bizarre.

We had loads to play for in the league games before those cup finals though, because it was the middle of the season. We couldn't throw them. Besides the momentum argument, these league games mean nothing to Man U and Spurs. Momentum is nice, but imagine if one manager wins their pointless league game at the cost of getting knocks and injuries, while the other throws the league game and has the strongest available side for the final. That'll be on their minds. It's a very different situation to our Carabao finals. Edited 3 hours ago by ohmelads
ExiledGeordie
So if Villa or Chelsea even drew, a point would be good enough for us in the final two games on the basis of goal difference and being caught? (Assuming City obviously get a place).
ramirez
if chelsea and villa win I think its probably in our interest forest do as well to have something to play for, we can't finish behind both of them as is, and they have Europe locked in

You only have to look at the team Spurs put out on Sunday to know they don’t give a shit about the league games and Man Utd have been playing half arsed for weeks. Nothing I’m more sure of than Man Utd & spurs both losing their remaining league games. We need 3 points and hopefully we beat Arsenal or it’ll be a nervy last game Edited 35 minutes ago by gdm

Forest do play after the cup final though, so we will know if we have at least Europa secured by the time they play. If Palace do win the cup then I'll be wanting Forest to drop points, just to be on the safe side.

For us to finish 7th, Forest would need to beat West Ham and Chelsea and we'd need to lose to Arsenal and Everton. For that to be Europa Conference, Palace would need to win the FA Cup final. It's not impossible of course, but given the form of all concerned, it seems unlikely.
