Anthony Gordon (now playing for FC Barcelona)

Recommended Posts

He will do better in a team that has higher calibre of players around him thats for sure. The current crop of wingers around Europe are under performing as teams play with a low block - but he has the ability to unlock a team so I'm sure he will have suitors this summer.

I personally don't think he's been right with us ever since that rumoured Liverpool story.

"It seems as though Gordon feels he has outgrown Newcastle" [emoji38]

Didn't read the full article but whoever said that knew just how to gain maximum impact from Newcastle's more angry fans.

Just like yesterday when the BBC and it's political correspondents descended even closer towards becoming the Daily Fail by headlining a good old gay/immigration story to give the nation's gammons some red meat to feast on.

These reporters are playing with us. Try, difficult though it may be, to concentrate on facts.

I mean Tonali and Bruno and Hall are all pretty high calibre, but if we're talking just strikers then that's fair. I just thought it was a strikers job to score goals and a wingers job to create and score. He's rarely done either from open play.

Won't lose too much sleep over this. Probably only Bruno and Hall I'd be really disappointed to lose.

Probably Miley too. Not much to base it on but I feel Gordon is a disruptive influence behind the scenes.

9 penalty goals, give Woltemade them (or even 6/7 if we account for the odd miss) and the narrative around this wastrel changes quite a bit and Big Nick is actually spectacular. Funny old game.

Standard Luke engagement stuff isn’t it? He’s such a wanker.

Will be an honour hearing him tell another team's fans how brilliantly he's been playing.

I've much preferred him centrally but his inflated ego is a massive annoyance when he has zero guile, consistency issues and struggles to strike a ball properly.

I've long been of the opinion if we need to lose a high-value player he's top of my list.

If we are gonna have to rebuild - one or two of the 'bigger' players are gonna have to be sold. It's the right time for him to move on - I think he believes his own hype a bit and whilst there is an excellent winger there, we just haven't seen it enough of recent.  Need to get a good fee for the club - £60million plus.

Semenyo went for just over 60million. Night and day them two at present. Then you look at Elanga too and he was also bought for similar and has been even worse than Gordon. Least his attitude isn't honking.

Shitty stories like this on the eve, eve of a home match while we are in a very mixed patch of form are really not helpful.

Everyone has an opinion about Gordon now and there is likely to be a few grumbles from the crowd based on the stirring caused by the latest news.

I mean frankly we will be losing players this summer, no doubt.  We definitely need to refresh.  If I was going to be brutal I would only really want to keep Hall, Bruno and Miley.  The rest can go as long as we can upgrade.  Making up the second tier of keepers would be Tonali and Thiaw, I would also say Tino but, I think I am resigned to him going already.

However, the chances of us signing, what effectively is, a whole new team this summer are slim.  It takes us weeks to complete a single deal.  So you just know that next season we will be starting with Murphy, Willock and Burn in our starting 11.

we need players who are more consistent than this guy tbh. He’s our best attacker but he doesn’t turn up often enough.

He’ll be good elsewhere when he’s motivated, but he clearly hasn’t been bothered about Newcastle for a long time imo.

He's probably our best attacker, but that doesnt say much really. He's a good player, but not a great player. Pretty much plays for himself, his stats look far better than his regular performances. How long did he go without a PL goal or assist from open play? His pace and trickery causes problem and hes capable of being unplayable on his day, but those days are few and far between really.

I dont have a problem with him wanting to leave as long as he doesnt go on like the rat, part and parcel really. I'd be happy enough to see the back of him for a good fee. Given we paid £40m for him, we should be looking at 65/70m+. Hopefully some more stat padding at the World Cup against shite like Panama and Ghana.

Its all good and well saying we'll take the money btw, but whats the point if we're going to waste it on absolute rubbish like Wissa or Elanga. Hope the club are planning for his exit and know where they want to reinvest the money.

Need to sell early and buy early, or simply buy early and run the risk of points deductions until we sell.

Excellent point

The main complication this summer will be the World Cup.

It will delay early deals and potentially inflate the prices of otherwise lesser players.

(Just takes a half decent performance or two on the world stage and boom!)

IIRC Semenyo was a release clause.

I couldn’t give a tinkers fig about Gordon. He ranges between good and mediocre, and for a while it’s usually the latter. We’ll likely get far more than I think he’s worth so I’ve always seen him as the best candidate for a PSR sale. The whole frontline needs overhauling and he can help fund it.

Not bothered really, under performing more often than not, way too careless with his passing.

If he wants to leave he's got some front, but thanks mate and see you, good luck in the future.

Not really too bothered, like most of our squad, he’s been coasting along for at least a year now. It’s a shame because he’s immensely talented and his technical ability is a huge asset (when he shows it).

He will go up a level when he’s at a better team.

IF true, I'm happy for him to move on. If it was just a case of him feeling like he wants a change, fresh challenge, to try another league, sample life abroad with his family etc. then I'd be totally fine with it.

However, there's just this snidey undertone with him that is hard to shake. Between his reaction from the other summer, effectively refusing to play RW, the Isak stuff... it just feels like he's a bit delusional [emoji38]

Either way, his open play output for the last 2 seasons has bee very average. We can do better from a starting winger. Actually, we need better.
