Anthony Gordon (now playing for FC Barcelona)

Recommended Posts

Florian Plettenberg reports that club-to-club talks have occurred between FC Bayern and Newcastle regarding Anthony Gordon. Newcastle’s initial demands were up to €90m. Realistically, the fee is expected to be approximately €75-85m including bonuses. Bayern will not pay that, and for this reason, discussions with other candidates are also ongoing.

If we get anywhere near £70m we’ve robbed whoever gets him. Great player on his day but they’re few and far between.

Not sure exactly but presumably there's about £15m of his book value left. Sell for £70m, minus Everton's reported 15% of the profit (say £4m) leaves a PSR profit of about £50m.

Probably the sort of deal that can fund two or three additions

Absolutely fucking hated him just before he signed here, he's been a very good signing and like him as a person and player now.

Dangerous player on his day but £70m+ is a good deal. Let's just hope we can find a quality replacement to feed the Wolte.

England full international who scores in the CL? We paid £55m for Elanga ffs  £70m is a joke.

Plenty of players at a similar or better level went for 70m or less though. Mbeumo, Cunha, Semenyo, Kudus, Madueke.

I won’t shed any tears but our attack without him is worse than poor imo. Need serious work doing in the summer but not holding my breath about that tbh.

Agreed. Nowhere near enough.

Probably his Champions League form this season which has sparked all the interest, because it definitely can’t be based on his Premier League form. Six league goals this season and six last season is underwhelming for a player with his talent. Even now, you never really feel confident he’s going to do something decisive when he gets around the box.

you're not going to get more than £70m for a forward with 3 non-penalty league goals and 2 assists. We'll be lucky to get anywhere near it.

We paid £45m for him didn’t we? £25m profit but £3.75m going to Everton. So a cunt hair over £20m profit on someone who’s broke into the England squad and is joint 3rd CL top scorer.

He’s probably our best attacker (an indictment on our recruitment rather than a glowing review of him) still as well. I’d want more than £70m like.

We need to do a good job replacing him but it's not beyond the realms of possibility that we can upgrade him, certainly on his league form anyway.

Shame he has the heart of a pea because he's got it in him to be an excellent player, he just doesn't want to do it for us.

Maybe European teams have watched him play other European teams where he has scored and played well?

Probably worth more but there is a benefit to having this done early, for a player that wants to go. I’d take that plus him going to Bayern rather an extra £10m later in the summer to Liverpool

Never really liked him. Tolerated during his purple patches, I suppose. But he's a horrendously annoying and tedious diver with questionable dedication.

Because of the above, I struggle to be objective on what his actual quality may be - but screw it, his head will be turned now so he'll be useless to us anyway. And we may just be selling him at the peak of his market value.
