Anthony Gordon

Recommended Posts

He was surrounded by utter shite at Everton so had to try and make things happen on his own. He's definitely buying into the team ethos here and taking on board what's being asked of him which is credit to both him and the coaching team, but there's 100% an element of him just being able to thrive in a better environment, where he has better players around him. This team and style of play is pretty much the ideal fit for him and he's the ideal fit for the team, most importantly he's making the most of that. I absolutely love him

Maxi who?Ā

Don’t want to shit on Maxi as I really liked him as a personality and a player who offered something pretty unique. However, Gordon is a complete footballer, with a lot of intelligence, huge desire to improve and amazing pace. He’s irreplaceableĀ

yeah I loved Maxi when he was here, it was sort of like the HBA Hope period, but I honestly believe Gordon is going to be one of our ā€œpurplesā€ for years to come, can only see him improving under Eddie & co.Ā

There was one sequence where we lost the ball but had players ready to win it back and I noticed he turned upfield and looked for space. Didn't hesitate, just got himself into position to do something.

Gordon just fits us better than ASM because he's a more rounded attacking player. His movement off the ball is the biggest difference - ASM was rarely very good at this for anything other than counters.

Ā

What's been so impressive with Gordon this season has been he's shown different qualities in different games. It'd be easy with his speed advantage to be a touchline merchant who waits for the ball to come to him to try and get 1v1, but he mixes it up depending and consistently to good effect.

Ā

He's 22, man.

ASM was great when he got on the ball and took players on but I never had confidence in him in a shooting position.

Ā

Gordon is 2/3 times the player Maxi was, and I love Maxi. I love wingers that race to the back post when a cross comes in. He has drive, pace, stamina, balance, passing, shooting, crossing, both feet, a mature head, and already a leader and an active team mate. What a buy.

Obviously he's been amazing and is integral but I still can't get my head around the level of consistent end product when it's put like that.

Ā

I love him. I want him to be overlooked by England as long as possible. He's ours.

Once hes back from injury its going to be hard for Barnes get back in the team with the way Gordon is playing?

Ā

Find it hard to ever see him as starter, with Gordon likely to just get better and better.

Ā

Think Barnes might get used for certain situations?

Ā

Don't get me wrong I love the squad depth, just interested in where he gets much game time.

When Gordon is serving his suspensions of courseĀ :)

Ā

But yeah, I can't see Gordon keeping this place up across 50+ matches a season. Or can he..? Been fantastic in every way so far.

We’ve got a Ā£40m left winger that scored 13 goals last season who hasn’t got a prayer of getting in the team because of this lad :lol:Ā

Yeah I wonder what will happen with Barnes when he is back! Gordon has made that spot his own, however I can't see us having Barnes on the bench forever, but moving Gordon to the right would interfere with this nice Murphy / Miggy rotation we seem to have

They’ll alternate due to all the massive games we’ll be playing and they’ll be happy to do it because they believe in Eddie and they believe in this club.Ā

I wonder if the Everton fans who thought he was shit and gloated that they robbed us £40m for him have swallowed some humble pie.

No they say it's just a spell and it's only been 9 games. It's when he get player of the tournament and lifting a world cup they might think otherwise.

He won't get overlooked having been the U21 player of the tournament. Even a blind man like Southgate can't pretend they don't see him.

To be honest there is no argument where they have done one over us as even if say he was a flop - it's not like they've spent that money in any way that has imroved them from 17th place dogwank hopefuls. They are still the same level of shite.

Ā

Same set of fans that argued Dyche was a good appointment at the time when literally anyone with an iota of sense knows he's just another 15th-17th average position manager who is still capable of getting a club relegated. So no change in their situation.

Ā

These aren't called scouse mackems for no reason.Ā

God he makes things happen. In games where we might be bogged down, like the games against Palace last year as it happens, Bruno off his game or whatever, think Gordon still threatens, runs at people, pulls them out of position and propells our lads into the space and yes, the odd free-kick won.

There’s stiff comp at LW.Ā
Ā

Ā

I like how close to Wilson he was at times and how he was always in the box when crosses came in. He’s got a forwards/strikers mindset.Ā
