Anthony Gordon (now playing for FC Barcelona)

Recommended Posts

I think we all have a tendency to overreact.

Gordon is a good player. Barnes is a good player. Both perform better when the team performs well and the team performs well when we have our wingers ticking.

Gordon had his best performance in black and white against Benfica and his worst against West Ham.

Im not sure on his attitude, but I know for certain that Eddie will be on top of it.

IMO he does come back in vs Marseille but in order to give Woltemade a rest. Its not ideal having Gordon up front, but it might be the right tonic for the side on a tricky European away night when counter attacking might be the way.

Barnes pushing him out of the team is fantastic news. Gordon will either have to put up or shut up.

I'm not sure Everton is the right game for Gordon, so on balance I'd play him tomorrow instead.

I don't think he's been quite right since that disrupted summer with England not playing him and then the Liverpool speculation even though that's a long time ago now. Also then this season adjusting to a different style of play this season with a more withdrawn striker.

On the other hand, with Barnes in form, you could make a case to play him against Marseille.

3 more points would presumably secure a play off spot, allowing us to then take the foot off the gas a bit in these last few interminable qualifying rounds and concentrate more on the league.

So, basically, I haven't a clue, but I'd rather Gordon played tomorrow than against Everton.

Gordon is a car crash against Everton and tries way to hard.

It is easy to say now in hindsight. But keeping Minteh and Anderson and selling Gordon would have been the better deal for us. Assuming Liverpool or whoever were actually in for Gordon, that is.

If he wasn't so unsettled that summer then I think we're talking about a different player now tbh. Certainly not someone who's been shit for 18 months, or whatever hyperbole-based-in-some-truth you want to use.

Without hindsight, fuck PSR and fuck Liverpool.

I do agree up to a point. Especially with the last bit. But how long does that excuse last? He got a big new contract and we’re a season and a half on. Is he still pouting because of that?! He is allegedly our second highest earner. Does not play like he is and hasn’t for some time.

Was that amazing season just an outlier and he’s been sussed out? Or is it generally an attitude problem or a change in playing style?

Find out in time, I suppose.

No, I'm not saying it's not still accountable, but we're not taking about a player who's been disappointing for the best part of 18 months. It was clearly a turning point in his career here, for the worse. All because of PSR.

For me it's attitude. He needs to wake up if he wants to go to the world cup. At present I'd have Murphy there over Gordon.

He's been absoulutely fine this half you bunch of conformation bias nonces.

Absolutely fine if you ignore him not trying to score and running away from a, admittedly abysmal, pass from Willock and letting the defender walk off with it.

I don't think there's been a massive overreaction towards Gordon tbf. You've taken the Benfica game in isolation there but generally speaking in 2025 he has been awful and I think the stats would back that up as well.

watching the Thiaw header that was cleared off the line on 4 minutes... I think any normal player gets their head on the end of that in front of the defender, but Gordon didn't want to get hurt. He's regressed so much since his ego got inflated cataclysmically from that one good season.
