England’s Anthony Gordon

He pushed someone in the same way that Duran itched Schars back.

And Duran didn’t miss any cup finals because of it.

I don’t know what people get out of hammering a player when he clearly did not get what he deserved.

I just can’t get my head around anyone thinking missing 3 games for pushing someone a bit harder than normal is fair.

I don’t know if it’s because people love to hate Anthony Gordon or secretly still think he’s a scouse rat, or what.

I was one of the few on here who defended his signing at the time, and think that the lad has been a good player for the club.  But I’ve no sympathy for him missing the final - it was an idiotic thing to do, it was violent conduct, and he absolutely deserves his ban.  Nothing should be held against him when he comes back, but it wasn’t an ‘unlucky’ red card.

He put his hands in his face.  So yes, he deserved an obvious red card and a suspension

Because Duran’s team didn’t have a cup final a fortnight later.  Gordon’s did.

Well aware of that, and ultimately, rules is rules etc. But for the ‘offence’ that was committed to result in missing a prestige cup final, is really very harsh, even if nothing can be done about it.

We demanded that the players were to go out and ‘forget about the final, and play at 100%’. Then one of them oversteps the mark and it’s ’fucking idiot, can’t believe he did that before the final’.

Giving 100% doesn't equate to attempting to push someone's head off their shoulders. It's not a contradiction to expect players to give 100% but be cross when they do what he did.

That said, as I posted in here when it happened he's a young lad who's fucked up and I'll not pillory him for it. Shit happens. He seems like the reflective type who'll learn, so if he does then great.

Of course, as I said he overstepped the mark, but when you want your plays to play on the edge that will happen occasionally, especially, as you say with younger players.

From time to time he ends up in situations where his emotions gets the better of him. I think it's something we just got to accept is within him. He'll be back soon and continue to do well. Barnes will handle the business in the meantime.

I was so pissed off with him getting himself suspended, mainly because I just had a feeling he was going to put in a massive performance in the final and be a real nuisance. I feel he was one of the few we really couldn't be without to have a chance. The others were Isak, Tonali, Hall and Botman and we already lost two of them aswell.

So it's gonna be a hell of an ask but just gotta hope the whole team can play the game of their lives.

It was a red. There is no agenda. If someone did that to one of our players we'd demand a red card.

Yeah it was a red, no arguments there.

You can’t push someone to the floor by their head and expect anything else. For someone who prides himself on his mentality, preparation for games etc, it was a truly idiotic moment that he’ll regret his whole career.

Can only hope he learns from it and comes back with a point to prove.

Comes back and helps us qualify for the champions league.

It was a red card, and he deserves the ban because that's the law.

However he definitely doesn't deserve the stick he's getting for fucking up. We're supposed to get behind our players.

A still doesn’t show what actually happened. Anyway, agree to disagree.

Personally think it was a borderline sending off, and one i'd always think was slightly harsh, but at the same time I have no issues with.

I do have some sympathy for him in that a single, almost reflex like moment has cost him the biggest game of his club career, and thats sad for any player, but that being said he did a silly thing and needs to take his medicine and learn from it.

This cracked me up for some reason

Maybe because his eyes also look like mouths...or I see Beavis

They need to sort out the three game shit. At least reduce it to two. In almost every case it's totally disproportionate.

All red cards should be an automatic one game ban that is then assessed to see if it warrants more. Take Bruno's red in the Carabao Cup two years ago, yes it was probably a red card because it went slightly high but to then miss three games as a result of it was ridiculous when it was just an honest tackle that was a split second mistimed.
