Lewis Miley: signs six-year contract extension (Official)

Pretty bad I think that we throw players straight back in after long injuries. Has happened with Tino, Hall and Joelinton in the past. Throw them straight back in and play full 90s then they get injured again.

Could maybe forgive in the past as we normally had no other players available but we had plenty of options to sub Miley off 2nd half and you could see for the build up to the first goal he was struggling to get back.

I don't want to knock 99% of his game today, but the difference between the Botman thread and this one is a bit mental. He was largely very good but he's probably the main person at fault for the equaliser - completely messes up the press, gets bypassed which starts their attack and then doesn't get back from there which leads to the back post overload.

Watching Curtis Jones playing RB today against Everton and it's the best I've seen him play, much more involved than when he's in midfield. Might be an idea to play Lewis at RB again, he looked very good there earlier in the season and he does dissappear a bit when in midfield.

Don't know what it was yesterday, but he was rarely pressing, and was constantly trying sit back and trying cut off two passing lanes at the same time when we were defending, which of course led to them passing through him at ease. Later on in the game he started pressing more, and had some decent tackles that led to us winning the ball.

Always difficult to tell what is manager instruction and what is player decision/instinct, but he should do more of the latter. Same as his passing really. He always pulls off whatever he tries, but he rarely tries the hard stuff. He needs to be unleashed by Howe or focus on how he can unleash himself. Skies the limit for this lad. He just needs to realize it himself, or be allowed to, whatever is holding him back.

He's just got back mate, takes a while to get the fitness and stamina back to play at fullback like he did earlier this season.

Yesterday he was passing two yards to Tonali on every occasion, fucking dreadful watch. If he’s got forward talent from midfield, it’s time to show it.

Incredibly harsh on a young player just back from injury and coming into a struggling side. He was playing safe quite a lot, but he also played some excellent short first-time passes into space that set people away. We need more players who look after the ball and don’t keep giving it away. If that means he will play it safe until he gets the confidence to do more on the ball I would far rather that than the many players that are currently gifting the ball to the opposition on a regular basis.

when they initially got the ball back in their own half for the second goal, we were shouting for someone to press from midfield.

miley was just a couple yards in front of botman deep in our own half with a massive gap in front of him.

I’d be starting him next season in midfield in as many games as possible. He’s the most talented player to come through the academy in some time and there really isn’t much better than a local lad in the team - especially when they’re actually good.

He’s ready for more football for sure.
