Think our best midfield is Bruno more advanced and then Miley, with Tonali sitting deepest. Bruno is our best slide rule passer and has the best vision. Tonali is the best defensively and snuffing out attacks. Heā€™s also the best at increasing our tempo and getting the ball moving quickly, he can release the ball in any direction. Miley is just great at receiving the ball, holding it and releasing. Heā€™s not got Tonaliā€™s physical attributes or Brunoā€™s vision but heā€™s extremely good at holding the ball and feeding the ball out wide. Heā€™s also got a quality strike on him. In games where we need to break down teams heā€™s a better option than Jow. In games where we need to defend against teams on the break a lot then Jow is probably preferableĀ

I'm a big fan of him ever since he started playing with the first team, he's so calm and composed and does all the right things on the pitch, this season he's been bailing out the more senior place when things go wrong, looking forward to seeing more of him and his development.

I think he does have the vision of Bruno tbh, think thatā€™s his strongest asset. His ball striking looks really good too. Not got great defensive awareness and isnā€™t as aggressive in tackles as Iā€™d want him to be to play deeper. Imo heā€™ll end up best as the most advanced midfielder of a 3, which is where heā€™s played most for the youth teams afaik.

Perhaps vision is the right word, he is very good at seeing players and knowing whoā€™s available and where to pass it. I just donā€™t think heā€™s shown that ability to slide passes in that cut through a back line like Bruno does. Mileyā€™s general passing is extremely goodĀ

think given his limited minutes for us thereā€™s enough evidence in this video that only Bruno is on his level for those kind of passes in the squad!

Iā€™ve said before that I think heā€™s second to Bruno in passing, although I think Hall is probably that nowadays. However, heā€™s still not on the level of Bruno. Clearly a fantastic player though and still got years of development to goĀ

He's 18, man. Unbelievable talent. Such a mature player for his age.

Ā

Surely will be the best we've brought through the academy in many, many, years

Seems to have more composure in front of goal than the other options despite his inexperience. More goal contributions are needed from midfield so that alone is a good argument for starting him especially in games they're expecting to be on top.

Superb today I thought. Feel like he should play deeper than Bruno, mind and today confirmed that.Ā

Did the opposite for me. Can play deep, but is better when aloud to go forward and join attacks. Tonali, Bruno and Miley is what I want to see.Ā

Nah. Iā€™m not saying he canā€™t do that. But as daft as it sounds. I have more confidence in him in the deeper role than Bruno and I think Bruno is better further forward.Ā
Ā

I think he looks a lot more mobile than last season and he is good on the ball with the game in front of him.Ā

From everyone's favourite pundit, Troy Deeney:

Ā

Lewis Miley (Newcastle): Player of the weekend. Yes, he scored against Forest but he was excellent. At 18 years old it was a coming-of-age performance - he was mature, kept the ball well and ran over people. He made a few mistakes but that was fine, he carried on going and didn't let anything affect him.

Just to depress everyone.Ā  He wasn't alive when Shearer got that 50-league-goal achievement with us.

Ā

Not sure if it's more depressing that we're all so fucking old or that we've had so few players reach that milestone.

Was he even alive to see Shearer play for us?

Not really.Ā  Shearer's testimonial was 10 days after Miley was born but Shearer was injured so couldn't do more than kick off at the beginning of the game.Ā  So no, he's not old enough to have seen Shearer kick a ball competitively for us.
