Champions League 2023/2024: Group F (Newcastle, Milan, Dortmund, PSG)

I love the Europa League and will be elated if we qualify for it via our league position in May, but I can't decide how I feel about the prospect of entering it by failing to progress in a separate competition. Of course it represents a tangible hope of silverware but I've always felt like the opportunity is a bit unearned in that scenario.

I didn't feel the same excitement as a lot of fans about CL qualification but,  Christ, I've loved every second of it since it's started. I'm now dying for us to qualify just to see how far we can go.

Looking at how the other groups are going, if we're runners up we're looking at the likes of Real, Barca, Inter or Bayern in the next round

Love how our route in all competitions is basically playing the hardest teams we could.

I honestly believe that will expedite our rise to the top. These matches are invaluable to EH and our squad learning and training. So if we qualify, fucking bring it mate.

When someone said we would draw prime Brazil out of the hat in the carabou cup I didn't even flinch [emoji38]

If there is a hard way, you better believe Newcastle are taking it.

Already well stoked for Dortmund. It's effectively must not lose or we have a mountain to climb.

That said, given we'd likely draw Real, Barca, Bayern or Inter in the next round, dropping into the Europa wouldn't be the worst thing.

I think in our position it's still definitely a good thing. We over-achieved to get into the CL so if we finish 3rd then drop down then fair play.

If we're ever at a level where CL should be the norm and we drop down, I'll feel a bit different.

Do we start Willock and Livramento? I think I would.

                           Pope

Tino.       Lascelles.  Schar.   Tripps

        Longstaff  Bruno Willock

Almiron.            Gordon.        Joelinton

Feel like the Arsenal game probably took a hell of alot out of the players. So won't be expecting miracles here. But perhaps if we play similar to the 2nd half and look to Willock, Almiron and Gordon for fast counter attacks and defend solidly, you never know.

Would also go Tino and Trips for this also if Burn unavailable, maybe even if he is.

Maybe I just don’t understand how GD works, but how are we not actually second in the group?

In European competitions (even some domestic leagues) it goes off teams records against one another primarily (after points) before then moving to goal difference as the third point.

Paris SG fan stabbed in Milan this afternoon.

The Italians really need to get to grips with this off the field violence that's increased in recent years.

Bet the Dortmund away following will be on their guard for when they visit on 28th Nov.

So Milan have played 2 home games in the Champions League this season, and each time the other team has a fan stabbed.

Just kick them out.

Pretty sure Italian ultras being able to knife foreign football fans is on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage List.

Contrasting that with the club guidance posted on the last page. In Dortmund you mix in the stadium, aren't held after and don't need massive police escort. I doubt UEFA will ever do anything about the Italian and French ultras. If you can't safely visit somewhere for a game of football then that place simply shouldn't be allowed in the competition.
