Lots of players needing a contract renewal. Bumping a bunch of players up during the season could push us close to the brink. You would hope all that type of stuff is accounted for though rather than penny pinching by starving off contract talks a few extra weeks/months. Often felt he's been pretty average against us otherwise, even when he scored in April/May I felt his general performance was pretty meh. Lots of running mixed in with lots of sideways stuff. Rodri, Reijnders, Gravenberch, Maxallister , Szob, Rice, Merino, Zubi, Baleba, Wharton, Caicedo, Latvia, and probably a few others are all really good. However to me our Italian has something extra, an aura around him that puts him into the elite bracket for his position. Everything he does looks effortless, could be the first touch pass, the sprint in added time, or the volley. To the point I dont think theres much comparison, probably better compared with a Modric level midfielder. We need to find a solution to that. If we have the best midfielder, why did we get dominated, the other players are obviously not good enough or not confident enough etc. The rest of the team needs to stop letting Tonali down. The talk has started and the noise around him will get louder. We need to get him tied down to a contract asap as teams certainly will be looking at him next summer.
