Holloway
That awareness man, he seems to be looking for options before the ball has reached him, someone mentioned a 360 degree swivel heed which was funny but not far off
TRon
I wonder if we even realised he was this good? Could it be he's actually designed for the pace of the PL, and once he's got acclimatised he's actually relishing the pace and intensity? With his speed of thought and pace, it suits him down to the ground tbh. Edited January 16 by TRon

Happy to have that rammed back down my xenophobic throat

I'm sure we did, but until you see someone in English football you can never be really sure how well they will adapt. Especially given the doubts expressed about Italian players coming over here. Maybe it's because they know we have little leeway for a misstep, maybe it's because players who wouldn't quite fit if they arrived at Man U, Spurs, Chelsea etc are being coached into their roles by Eddie and the team - or probably just a combination of the above plus generally good scouting. Whatever, our record since the takeover vis-a-vis our rivals has been excellent. It feels like we're not panicking into signing for signing's sake either. If a decent looking player goes elsewhere now I'm not thinking 'why weren't we in for him?', but I'm assuming for whatever reason we didn't see him as a fit for the club. Geordie Ahmed
When Bruno would play at the 6 I would often shout pass it or quicker and he would often hold on to the ball, which tbf is a strength of his as he doesn't often lose it but I absolutely adore how Tonali uses the one touch pass to great effect It allows us to get into great positions much quicker and it's also less risky too I also think the way Howe, the club and the fans supported him during the year out means we get a bit extra from him. Before his ban there were times where he would either tackle half heartedly or not quite get back into position whereas now he's like a man possessed and we are so much better for it

There was a lot in the press about Eddie watching Sandro and 'falling in love', and it's easy now to see why. There was also a lot made of the idea that we needed a DM to progress, all the while Eddie maintained that he would prefer a fluid midfield. He's done it. He has, but Tonali's recovery pace as the deeper midfielder has made such a differences to our defending. And our results.
Irish Magpie
Saw a comment on a BBC site re: Tonali's excellence. "70% of the world's surface is covered by water, the rest is covered by Tonali!" It wasn't a Newcastle fan that made the comment.

Mental at that stage in the game, running full tilt. He has the ability to just dink it over the defender and hurdle the challenge almost in one motion. He was rapid that Agbadou and all. Looked a good, physical defender. Just glided past him.
