I think the debate is if he's the best CM in our history. IMO he's the best I have seen in 30 years of supporting the club

Probably only Rob Lee and Gary Speed come close. Loved David Batty too although Lee and Speed stand out for me.

It's obviously not all about goals but Rob Lee had a goal in seven and Speed was around a goal in nine. Tonali currently a goal in nine/ten but he seems to love the woodwork. He's had a few great efforts he's been unlucky with, including that one yesterday.

I think if he keeps this up for a full season and adds a few more goals he'll surpass Lee for me.

What's incredible is that he's world class and you barely notice him playing at times.

Im always like "who was that with that tackle?" Oh its Sandro.

"Who played that pass?" Oh its Sandro.

Hes like an invisible assassin.

Best central midfielder to ever play for the club. Even better than Nicky butt and Alan Smith

He needs to make a pointless overhead kick in the middle of the pitch before he can ever exceed Nicky Butt's greatness.

Tonali is a cool customer, so it's not easy to see how invested he is in our city, culture and team. Hopefully we can get a fresh contract sorted and a few more years of him because I do think inevitably he'll move on for more money and chances at glory.

I think that given the affection you ( Club and fans) showed him during his ban, it will be difficult for him to leave Newcastle. Given the type of guy he is, he will only leave Newcastle if he sees the club can't build a competitive team... it's not a question of more money (Sandro isn't like that piece of shit Donnarumma) but of the chance to fight for something important.

Last season you had a good team and an excellent coach, but I'm not sure the "transfer market" team have done their job well this summer.

I wonder how long it will take fans of the other clubs to figure out how good he is.

The Youtube content creators eventually figured out that Joelinton, Schär, and were actually quite good. It gradually became a general consensus, but I don't think they really believe it. Probably because most don't watch us on a regular basis. They see us play two or three times a season-- against Man Utd, Arsenal, or Liverpool.

Saw some roundtable earlier this year were someone asked whether Tonali was "world class" and they all said no. So, the Youtube content creators haven't figured it out yet. Hell, they've only just figured out that we haven't overpaid for him (and Gordon).

I wonder if what he does just runs under the radar. I was looking at the match ratings handed out on Who Scored. I don't really understand how those ratings are dynamically calculated, but they gave Trippier a 7.9 (and MOTM) and Tonali a 7.5, which seems nuts to me. We weren't hurt by any of Tripper's many errors, but we might have been. Tonali -- it was like we had two players on the pitch. Covering for everyone else.

As good as our midfield is in the middle of the park we lack a lot in the final third and in transition. Sandro does make up for this with his recovery pace but it's not enough.

Bruno and Jo are legends and can pull a 10/10 game out of their asses from nowhere, and I never ever want them to leave, but I do feel like one of them will need upgrading soon.

This made my brow furrow so hard I sniffed up chest hair

As if Tonali needs upgrading

Tonali flies under the radar because he does all the thankless jobs immaculately, he's not going to skin 4 players and score a blasty from outside the area and a lot of the time that's what makes people sit up and watch. He's clinical, covers a lot of ground and protects the defence perfectly, he can spot a pass and has immense build up play but he's rarely there to finish the job, because that's not his job. I don't think there's a better player in his position and I'm happy no one has picked up on what he does because he's ours and I want him to stay that way.

Totally agree. Its also incredible how he hits those long passes, a normall player after hitting it long will normally slow down or stop until the ball reach its player, Tonali he keps sprinting like its no effort for him. And many times he is the one there to receive the short pass straight after he hit the long ball.

I would love to see him take on one or two players and have a go, or try more long range shots. The only thing his missing to his game are more goals.

Of course. I’d never use it for anyone but myself.

We absolutely have to sign him up on a new long term deal. Preferably like yesterday. He’s world class. I think it’s important that we do this before there’s proper interest and firm offers for him. It’s inevitable that there will be shortly if not already. He’s got a kid on the way, let’s make sure he stays here for ages.
