There was a bit in the second half where he received the ball in the centre of the pitch with his back to goal and with one touch he swiveled and took out about 3 of their players

He needs more players around him on same wavelength, he's fantastic and covers so much space with ease. Rarely puts a foot wrong, top top midfielder.

Gave him a 7 in the match thread but on reflection he was definitely an 8; he was flawless and had lots of particularly good moments. There was one passage of play where we worked it forward really well and it culminated in him backheeling it for Elanga to cross; but he was central to the move from the very beginning. Maybe the same one from the incident @joeyt mentioned but can't remember. I felt we really had a foothold in the game for most of that second half and he was central to that. 

 

Amazing player. Don't think I've seen an engine like his one any other Newcastle player, ever. Obscene stamina.

Needs and deserves a week off completely. He's more than done his job so far and others need to step in and let him rest for a week, he's running through brick walls so far this season and will need to rest now and again to keep him fresh

He shouldn’t be our most progressive midfielder but he did a manful job today.  That turn was one of 2 pieces of class I saw today.  
 

I really wanted us to add 2 to the level of him and we didn’t do it. We actually lost one. Tough.

I do think he will show some degree of loyalty for us helping him out though.

I think he does feel like he owes us/is committed to the cause. Just hoping that he doesn’t think his repayment is this season alone. He will definitely be on the radar and wish list of tier 1 clubs. As others have said his length of stay with us probably depends on how we’re doing and his faith regarding further improvement in the competitiveness of the squad/club.
