But it is costing us players down the line ultimately, again a roadblock placed on us by PSR when there was no need for it in our case. We have the money to keep the players and buy new ones. Whole thing is so obviously bollox. I would love us to challenge this as it’s so obviously anti competitive!

It's a very good sign that Mitchell and Howe are aligned and working together. Ultimately, as long as this is the case I think we are going to be just fine going forward. Man City and Chelsea can't sign every single player afterall. Getting good value in the market is going to pay major dividends going forward, and we've got the manager to get the most of any talent that comes in too. Compared to the teams we are competing against we have very few players of any value. You can’t force other clubs to buy off us. Apart from taking the risk of selling Trippier a year ago I’m not aware of any offers we’ve turned down for our squad players unless I’ve missed something. ASM and Wood both surplus and sold for decent fee’s. Minteh sold for a very good fee. Anderson can be argued until the cows come home. He allowed us to keep Isak/Gordon so until we see what becomes of Vlac in his time here from what i saw £15m for him in those circumstances was fine. This is why I’m not as depressed as I maybe should be. At least we have a functioning football club again. I do believe the PL will eventually have to find a solution that doesn’t result in such a boring transfer market. They’ve been lucky this year because Man City have dropped off and the league has become competitive. Edited Friday at 12:43 by AyeDubbleYoo
STM Posted Friday at 12:48 Share Posted Friday at 12:48 Really thought there was a slight shift in Eddies press conference. He was open about Dubravka staying (pretty much) He was open about us pursuing Khusanov He pretty much confirmed Miggy will leave He implied that Lloyd Kelly could leave if they got the right fee He was asked about the Greek leaving and didn't rule that out either. He also didn't rule out incomings, he said we weren't active but also said that we have still been doing the ground work (talking to agents etc) in case we did want to act. He also said "until something changes", which again implied that if we sell we might be active. My gut instinct is that we are waiting right until the end of the window to see if anything heats up. I highly suspect we will attract interest in some of our players late on, which could change our position.

Zero Posted Friday at 15:24 Share Posted Friday at 15:24 It genuinely doesn’t make sense. Where’s the Guehi budget gone? We even can’t sign Khusaniv? Not that I rate him that high but no way
Dr.Spaceman Posted Friday at 15:28 Share Posted Friday at 15:28 Are we basically saying we'd have been royally fucked had we actually signed Guehi, or are we back to making false bids to appease the fans?

Presumably he was a player Howe wanted as part of his long term plan, so I imagine the idea would be to then sell someone by next summer who wasn't part of our long term plans. The Prophet Posted Friday at 15:35 Share Posted Friday at 15:35 Hasn't it been reported a fair but that if we'd have signed Guehi we'd have needed more sales? No idea if Miggy and Kelly would have covered the difference though.

kingxlnc Posted Friday at 16:45 Share Posted Friday at 16:45 What’s really annoying is that Man C and Chelsea operating in the same market as us, highly rated young gems that could develop into elite talents. So you can’t compete on that level given their huge revenue advantages not even mentioning their academies. At least Man U, Liverpool and the others tend to have a different strategy for more established players.
