Amanda and Merhdad dug a pretty deep PSR hole for us. It's becoming clearer and clearer why they had to go imo.

They dug a PSR hole by bringing in players to avoid near-certain relegation (Trippier, Wood), then signing Bruno, Isak and Tonali and getting us Champions League.  It was worth the hole.

100% this. It did get hairy but it worked.

If we replace the players going with young talent with a lot of potential.

Will eddie play them or will we be going into next seasons games with with the same players as this season? 😂 And have to wait nearly a year to see them.

I think it's easier for a club like Bournemouth to go and do that though. Same with Brighton a few seasons back. The stakes aren't as high if risky signings go wrong.

This. Clubs can have spells where things seem to go right and others seem to view it as a blueprint (Southampton bringing youth through, Boro before them, the Brighton system etc) sometimes it's a statistical fluke (Leicester) and even legit systems that work can't stay still.

We will lose one of Isak, Gordon, Bruno and Tonali this summer, regardless of where we finish, imo.

Fail to qualify for CL and it just means it's 2 or 3. There are lots of eyes on our best players now.

If we lose 3 of them 4 you've mentioned then we may as well not bother next season.

Are their contracts up? No? I get unsettled players and why that is bad but Newcastle are not going to be forced to sell anyone next season.

This is ridiculous fatalism. They're all on 3+ year remaining on contracts. Any that go this summer will be for stupid money and would open us up to a hugely positive rebuild regardless.

There's no way more than one of those players are being sold. We don't have to sell.

Villa have made £70m from the champions league this year, if we qualify we'll keep hold of all 4.

It looks like we're currently on the limit of the UEFA rules bit fine with the current PL rules. £70m extra next year plus we will get more sponsorship deals through and we've got £50-£60m headroom minimum for wages and amortisation

It's not like fishing around for, say, Brentford player though. The club's fishing for those players you mention will have to pony up between 80-100 million minimum for each - considerably more if we're talking about Isak.

And even then, I think there's sufficient reason for those (above) sticking around if they're seeing significant investment in the summer.

We're not in the Ashley era any more.

I love the figures banded about, we'll sell this player, we'll have to sell a star, maybe two, or even three.

Not one single one of us know the actual figures involved. Some, maybe a little more informed than others. Some think they're Magnus Pike and Johnny Ball rolled into one. A couple even think they're Pythagoras's Great great by the power of infinity grandsons.

This place is great, everyone is off their tits [emoji38]

All this talk of having to sell this player or that player, or they’ll want to leave… It’s interesting to see the non-stop talk from Sky appears to be working on a few.

I spent all last summer reading that we would have to sell Bruno or Isak, and it didn’t happen, so can we just put that to one side and just see what happens rather than saying with absolutely certainty one will be going?

Not even a loan deal, man.

If the hierarchy are giving up on the Champions League, it's very disappointing because a couple of weeks ago we looked in a great position.

I really hope we attack the free transfer market because, as well as CF/RW/CB/GK, we desperately need depth. David, Gomes, Walker-Peters, Bardghji etc.
