Save your typing. Mazzy
If he can play in midfield then he can play up top as well, give him the number 9 and be done with it. Fabian Schar, Newcastle's new striker.

Agent-club relationship is on a spectrum where they can represent the club just as much as they do players which is why you see certain clubs only working with certain agents. Under Shepherd, Paul Stratford worked very closely with the club for example. I'm not saying we have to be in bed with agents like other clubs but we should be in a position where deals are agreed with the player and where we can trust it will go through before we even approach their club in most cases. If he was so highly courted he’d have been nowhere near us, like most of our targets this summer despite us being in a far, far better position. We evidently can’t afford to buy or attract strikers in the elite pool we’re looking at so what do we do?
Stottie
When he signed, Isak was the most expensive signing ever (70M euros) by a non Sky 6 club. Three years later, he still is. Next highest is Onana to Villa for 60M euros. 76 other players plus Isak have gone for higher fees than Onana. Basically every Sky 6 club could field an entire 11 of more expensive players than every club from 7th downwards. For his first two seasons, Isak's output was little different to Callum Wilson's in the same team. Isak is now the player we developed, not the player we were somehow lucky enough to buy and be deigned with his presence.

Ekitike the biggest of our targets at 80m. All comparable to when we bought Isak at 63m. You said Isak was a calculated gamble, but he was big money. And complained we're fishing in the most expensive river for a new striker. Which we did with Isak. Arsenal had been after him for ages, we were lucky we were able to agree the fee we did and have no other club coming in for him at the same time. I just don't see how you can spin this as a stick to beat Howe with. How Howe's supposedly ripped up a list of players, suggestively cheaper players, for his own list of expensive players whilst pleading poverty. And hold Isak up as some example of being savvier with cash. When it's clearly ludicrous to do so. We're trying to sign his replacement, of course we arent going to buy some unknown who's had a good season is some other league to replace him, that'd be mental. Haz
So are we now in the final phase whereas we are left with a list of players that we wouldn't touch with a bargepole ordinarily and also those who we think aren't good enough for NUFC.

We're trying to sign his replacement, of course we arent going to buy some unknown who's had a good season is some other league to replace him, that'd be mental. The point I’m making (however badly) is that we’re struggling massively to acquire the elite players we’re targeting so we should maybe focus on what got us where we are, as it was very clearly working. Every big name signing we’ve made (bar maybe Botman due to injuries) has improved as a player and their value has risen a lot. We haven’t needed to sign the finished article because our scouting and negotiating was top notch, finding attainable near-future stars we could improve and push on massively with. Signing the player before they become *that* player was our biggest strength in the top 6 dominant, PSR/FFP world. Something has unquestionably changed in that regard in the last 12 or so months. We’ve come into this window with a small list of long term, hard to acquire targets and have hyper focused on them for many weeks, mostly one at a time. The Guehi saga last summer has foreshadowed this summer perfectly despite Howe saying we don’t want to repeat it. Mitchell’s job was described as “90% recruitment” so I do doubt that he (or the previously exceptional scouts) hadn’t managed to find a single credible first team target in over a year of employment. Just about every player we’ve been seriously linked to this summer had been mentioned before he joined and if not they’re very well known and required minimal scouting. Mainly targeting proven Premier League players from unwilling sellers in this PSR driven world is a dangerous tactic. I obviously get the idea of buying the best possible players but if you’ve got £50 to buy food for a month you shouldn’t go to Harrods. A great post on here by a Bournemouth fan described Howe as being “a control freak and pretty much directly oversaw all aspects of the club”. Everything since his meeting with the Chairman after the Everton game suggests to me we’re at that stage now, rightly or wrongly. Regardless of any of this extreme conjecture, I love him and I’ll back him till the very end.
