NUFC Transfer Rumours

Wasn't Justin Kluivert primarily a RW or LW?

Yep.  Played wide and 10 his whole career, I thought?  Even in this run where Bourenmouth have no strikers available.  He isn't playing up top.

What a lazy, shit rumour.  Expect nothing less from those cunts, mind.

Pass on Kluivert. Not because he's bad or wouldn't add to us but he would cost a fortune and we can't keep shopping at Waitrose.

We've got to start signing the players before they are proven in the Prem and utilise good scouting.

Yup. The time to sign Kluivert was when he cost ~€10m rather than now when he'll cost 5x that.

I feel it might be time to call bullshit on some of this. Do they really want us to believe that club have made no significant amounts of money bar player sales? Nothing at all from game day income, shirt sales, TV money...fuck off man.  2 or 3 years for the revenue stream to be beneficial? Fuck sake. Pointless.

They may well have but what has also happened to the wage bill etc in that time .

The PSR thing does seem to be something that the club uses quite a lot and the noises from the PL do seem to indicate it is a massive issue. I reckon the club are playing the long con here; make sure that every journo knows that the reason for no investment is the rules that cripple anyone who tries to challenge the establishment in the hope of crumbling the stupid rules.

I think for PSR to work as intended, in our case we would have to sell the best players at a profit and reinvest. Otherwise they will gradually become depreciating assets. We aren't going to make up the difference by selling shit players for peanuts.

A case of two steps forward, ones step back.

Player salaries are massively higher than they were previously, largely negating the increases in revenue.

As a result, the “floor” of the current squad is somewhere around a mid table finish. 5 years ago, the floor was relegation.

Are you saying they’re misleading the fans because they don’t want to spend?

I honestly don't know. But we are so close to achieving something again and not strengthening the squad is remiss of them. We might recruit in the summer (and I'm not convinced we will) but we'll be starting all over again with all the big clubs getting stronger. We will have our best players wondering what the hell is going on too. Apparently spending £1.2 billion on a new stadium might be in their thinking as well.

It's just so frustrating when I feel we're so close.

Which frankly is not the end of the world as far as I am concerned. Ultimately I want these owners to develop the club as an institution that can stand on its own two feet, rather than one that might go under once they lose interest and stop investing or decide to sell up. I want the club to excel in scouting, youth academy, player development, having a clear identity/playing style, etc. as opposed to ending up as PSG Mk II.

They can’t spend under the regs.  The regs are designed to do precisely this - stop clubs with lower turnovers and wealthy owners from ‘breaking in’.  All the shirt sales, TV money is accounted for and sunk into the squad - the issue is that we make about half of what a member of the ‘Big Six’ makes.

If we don’t make the CL next season, we’d likely need to sell to make significant signings (we’ll be able to make signings).  Without CL football we may lose a big name or two in any case.

Knowing how PSR etc works is fantastically boring, but it seems better than getting worked up thinking that the club is pretending there is a problem.

Justin Kluivert linked in the event Isak leaves. Guehi linked to us and Spurs. More transfer rumours the day after deadline day than actually in the window!

One swallow…  and all that. If we sign players on the basis of them scoring a hat trick against us, Chris Wood would be cheaper.
