NUFC Transfer Rumours

I never expected more than 3 in, and I still think that’s what we will get.

Always thought keeper, centre-back & right-winger, then it'll be one out, one in. Midfield needs added quality but unless we can sell Longstaff or Willock, I doubt we'll be able to fit one in. Maybe a loan backup if we find Miley a loan or something.

Surely having no cover for Isak is literally asking for it?

GK

CB

RW

CF

Then a CM and versatile FB

This might be pushing it, though.

I could live without the FB and the CM is ‘nice to have’ if we find someone to take Longstaff or Willock.

Five of our defenders are in their 30s too. We’re going to need numbers at some point, not fucking around for months looking for the perfect one.

We need more than 3, but can anyone seriously see that happening?

At this point i see Trafford, Elanga and a CB signing, that would come to circa 120 million.

Howe doesn’t like huge upheaval in a transfer window and don’t think we have the finances, or people in place to navigate big wheeling and dealing this summer.

I don’t think Willock, Longstaff and Miley will cut it at CL level. Miley has the potential to in the future (and maybe that will be this season but he didn’t show it last season). I think if we don’t sign a CM will be in trouble. Most important part of the pitch and we have 3 starters and that’s it. Our shape and ability to affect the game drop off massively if any of those 3 miss a match.

If we could sell Willock and Longstaff and buy a player who could genuinely compete with B, T and JL we’d be so much stronger for it.

In my sweat drenched thoughts last night night, I wondered if we're low balling for some of these players to flush out the competition. Once they bite and sign the players we ‘look’ like we’re after, they hopefully have less inclination to bid against us for the players we actually mean to sign.

I’ve got full belief in Miley, personally, but I do see your point. Willock and Longstaff are decent 5th/6th choices with our current constraints, but if we could upgrade this summer without impacting other moves then I’m sure we would.

Would be an act of self sabotage, We've literally gone into a champions league campaign short before, we know how it ends

This isn't true in anyway at all. How were we short ?

We literally had 2 players in each position.

Injuries is what hurt us. Not being short.

We had  3 rbs 5 cbs 2 lbs 2 rws 2 lws 7 cms and 2 fws. Not to mention the keepers. How was that short?

We had and continue to have a bunch of players who aren't trusted by the manager to play and perform.

We had 2 bodies for each position yes but how many were actually viable?

Wilson was our top goal scorer the season before. Willock and Longstaff were main stays in our 4th place finish. We got tonali and Barnes. Moved big Joe to CM and tonali for longstaff. That is strengthening and squad building.

The question for you is who wasn't trusted or viable?

I really don't want to be frustrated by another transfer window. It's difficult to believe that anyone at the club believes that three signings would be enough. Especially considering we've bid for three players already, so you'd have to assume thats the absolute minimum we'd WANT to bring in before pre season starts and then another couple as and when we can get deals done.

You may look at the squad list and see, and bare in mind this was 2 years ago Lewis Hall then wasn't Lewis hall now. Same for Tino etc.

We had such talents like Ritchie and Dummett knocking around.

Miley will have a class season, as will Osula (on the right). Concerned about up top, in defence and I do think we need an AM

I'd expect a much more significant contribution from Miley and Osula next season. But with CL group qualification and LC games that's probably no more than a statement of the obvious.

Really want to see us use Osula a lot more. Kid has something about him.

In our CL season 2 of the 4 players we signed were immediately out for the season and one of those players turned out to be not ready. Add to the chronic injuries across the park, the comparison going into this season is ridiculous.

We won't have the same level of injuries, we've got a better squad now than we did then and hopefully we will get at the very minimum 3 quality additions.

Oh and also, I dont think its actually possible for us to get the draw of death, which basically gave us no wriggle room whatsoever for rotation.

We need players but we've progressed massively in 2 seasons, even without senior signings.

My biggest worry is the potential drop off from our CBs Schar and Burn. Schar dropped at least 10% at times last season.

Agreed with Osula, think this is the breakout season for him.

With PSR related shackles I reckon we spend on a specialist CB, GK and someone who can cover a few positions across the front. A CM would be sensible, especially if Longstaff and/or Willock leave. Then that leaves up front and I don't see any serious money being spent there so its either Osula and Gordon covering or we go for a freebie like DCL.

His stats aren't great but watch out for Vipotnik at Swansea this year, just turned 23 and with the right system around him he has the tools to be a more than decent striker, £5-10m would get him here and he would flourish as the backup
