NUFC Transfer Rumours

Recommended Posts

"Ekitike has a release clause of around €100 million (£86 million) and Newcastle would almost certainly have to pay the full fee to get the transfer over the line."

Seems like a non-starter based on this alone.

Think we'd only pay that if we got similar for Gordon for example, or Isak left.

Only way we have that brass is if we sell one of Barnes, Gordon or, god forbid, Isak, Bruno or Tonali.

Can you elucidate (I mean I’ve no reason to doubt you), but do you mean, we aren’t as rich as was made out, or is the expenditure constrained by all the financial shit that was designed to hit us specifically?

Definitely the latter. We’ve got decent headroom now under PSR with the 21/22 losses rolling off the calculation but it’s about being able to do what we need with the squad which will eat that up quickly.

We know they want a defender, a GK and a versatile forward - we don’t have the wiggle room to blast £80m and the £55m Elanga fee and expect to have money to spend on the other areas where we need depth.

Selling Longstaff and Willock (plus having to buy at least one replacement) won’t be big enough to do all of that. Even selling Barnes would be a struggle to cover it. Meaning it would have to be a bigger player going for a bigger fee.

I just don’t get this. Do we have the financial clout to buy whoever we want? But we can't because of constraints on us from the big clubs who ignore those restraints anyway?

Ekitike ever actually played out wide? Or we just assuming this because he's similar to Isak? Not sure I've seen much suggesting that he has or even actually playing as a false 9 or behind the striker, not seen anything to say that's happened at all in his career so far.

Totally agree 👍. It's just a made up subject to give Talksport something to talk about, which they are doing now. Questioning Isak's loyalty and some clown saying that Arsenal are an 'infinitely' bigger club than Newcastle.

I nearly strangled my radio.

Cash rich via our owners but capacity to spend it poor because of the rules around revenue and permissible losses. If it was just the UEFA rules we could do it and just take a fine but seeing the PL deduct points from Forest and Everton is something our leadership don’t want us to incur - we scraped CL on goal difference so don’t have the margins to take 3-10 point hits.

Also fuck all chance we pay £80m+ for a player not Premier League or Champions League tested. Look at Antony at Man Utd ffs.

This is Howe though. Someone who has ultimate faith in his own judgement on a player.
