Flabbergasted by our evident lack of imagination in this transfer window. Our only targets seem to be players we’ve scouted for 2/3/4 years (Trafford, Elanga, JP, Ekitike) all of whom are now valued at least double or three times what they were when we were originally linked. No one in the scouting department watch any matches last year?

There's no chance we're getting the GK, ST, CM, CB we need at minimum in this window, really seems like amateur hour behind the scenes we are just unable to do more than one thing at a time and even that's slow.

 

I have no doubt the targets are there but just don't seem to be able to get anything done at any kind of urgency or speed, even the outgoings, I thought the fee was agreed for Longstaff are we holding that up aswell? 

 

Haven't even mentioned that all of our targets from our supposed fantastic scouting team are very unimaginative.

I'll always judge the window when it's closed, but we need to get a move on for sure. 

 

In theory if we're moving away from top tier targets, deals should be easier to do, but if we're going round in circles with the likes of Trafford and Guehi, we'll struggle to get what we need.

There’s so much speculation out there about how we go about the transfer window, it’s just odd. How do you really know what speed we’re working at behind the scenes?
 

I get the disappointment that we’ve got one player in, but come on, transfers aren’t just done in an instant. We have specific targets and we’re trying to make it happen. It’s a negotiation that takes time and as we’ve seen before it can involve leaving the process if need be and then coming back at a later stage. Gone are the days where having rich owners means you just offer whatever it takes, we live in a different world now

Pretty much based on how some of the top teams just get things done faster i guess.

Even presenting the player takes us an eternity, if we are going to dine at the top table we need to begin to act like we belong there. 

 

I thought we'd learnt our lesson after last season, you need to move fast, we haven't and its very frustrating, however we still all trust Eddie util he gets sick and moves on, which i think he will after this season tbh. Hope im wrong.

I've got my optimistic hat on.

 

I think we're working on the forward - whether that is a Pedro/Ekitike level signing or someone cheaper, we'll then know which targets for the other positions we're going to move on to and we might see a few deals done relatively quickly. We probably are only "working on" one deal at a time, but we'll have had preliminary discussions with players/clubs to get an idea of how much the various keepers, CBs and midfielders we're looking at would cost.

Six weeks to do 4 deals as the market gets faster - absolutely fine, although would help if we got Trafford sorted over the weekend.

The clubs that move fast are the ones that aren't shackled by PSR. Even the likes of Arsenal take a while to get major deals done.

Three in at the very most and that's if things fall our way. One of those being Trafford, so that's either a back up striker or CM we miss out on. No way we don't get a CB, that would be criminal from the club.

As true as that may be, those attempts have now wasted a lot of our time. Feels as if for at least three of those you've mentioned we've gone for the player without having a clue if they are interested (they weren't) where we should've figure out that first before losing weeks even trying.

For a team like us who don’t have top tier pull we’re always likely to do our business late in the summer unless we pivot completely to buying up and coming risk players. If we want established players I think it’s very hard for us to do our business until late July onwards
