NUFC Transfer Rumours

Can’t stand Paqueta personally although I know he’s talented. Would rather have Douglas Luiz.

Also inevitable organised crime and gambling ring that will arise when he meets Tonali.

Different players though. We need to break down low blocks. Paqueta gives us a much better chance at than Luiz.

If the reports are true, we're at the point where we probably shouldn't even sign a striker until we get a proper recruitment team in imo.

Not even hyperbole, I'm deadly serious. The players we're reportedly after and are maybe realistic aren't ticking enough boxes to make them worthwhile.

We're talking either too old, too expensive, not good enough, unproven or a combination. It really is an unprecedented situation we're in, particularly if we sell Isak, and means that there's a good chance we spend too much for no return on investment on the pitch.

We're staring down the barrell of going into a gun fight unarmed and we're looking through the knife catalogue wondering which one to buy.

Yup, Mitchell was right about our recruitment not being fit for purpose, need to start by binning off Andy Howe and the scouting team and start from scratch.

Mitchell was very much a data led coach so I wouldn't be surprised if the new technical director was his appointment, i do think Mitchell would have come good in the next year or so as we would start to see the fruits of his labour.

We are shopping in the over inflated "PL proven players" market as our first, second and third choices for position knowing there is a Saudi tax as nobody wants to sell to us and PL chairmen are happy to mess us around and leave us hanging on (see Guehi last summer & Trafford this summer) as an example

We need to scout smarter and get our business done earlier, we also need to be looking at 2,3 & 4 transfer windows ahead buying those gems that can end up being starts before the breakaway 6 get them

If Isak goes and we don't get suitable replacements there will be questions than need answering from PIF, Eales, Eddie, Steve Nickson & Andy Howe as the last two months haven't been good enough we have been too passive and too focused on "PL proven players", and I reckon this is the direction that Eddie has decided on.

Eddie is the best thing to happen to us since Keegan but there needs to be a better collaboration between PIF, the new CEO, the new Sporting Director, Suds & Eddie when it comes to transfers without all the drama, politics and power plays.

I've seen KI railing against the clubs need to "lowball" and I think it's a bit unfair. We aren't a cartel and obviously have a limited budget. We can't just pay what clubs are asking for. This is obviously compound by our preference to place an emphasis on buying players from the most expensive league in the world.

We are in a really tricky position as a club, stuck between a rock and a hard place if you will.

I do think that’s actually a good lesson for Eddie - your wish list is somewhat unrealistic.

I ain’t blaming him, but obviously we have been fully focusing on Eddies wish list last summer and this summer. EPL proven, first team quality, can immediately contribute to the team. The club listened, and go ahead, and crashed, twice.

In fact I agree with KI, now I really doubt whether we had sent scouts to other leagues the last year. It really looks like they have been fully focused on Eddies wish list and thus now, we simply have no contingency plan, we don’t have cheap options from other leagues. Every bid now looks like panic buy.

I hope Eddie takes this lesson well and work with the upcoming DOF (hope that’s Wilson), and then back to finding gems or semi finished products from other leagues. We aren’t in the position to go head to head with other mega clubs yet.

I am not saying Mitchell is a good DOF but I genuinely think he mainly clashed with Eddie due to the transfer planning, and this summer shows he is probably right. Hope Wilson can find a balance and convince Eddie to change his mindset a little bit

It's the weekend now lads, nothing's getting done. Back to it Monday afternoon for another rejection.

At this rate, most outcomes in this window will feel like something of a failure.

Isak stays - He's got a lot to do to untarnish his reputation and we still need three signings in the door.

Isak goes - we best hope its not to Liverpool else we'll never hear the end of it, and we also have to hope it's not to a Saudi team. Then we'll need to sign four players minimum with hardly any time to do it.

I share KI's view. The transfer policy was out of step with reality. Every player is unaffordable because we value every player less than the selling club/other buying clubs do. And that's even when we move down to the tier below the elite level PL players. There does appear to be a complete lack of contingency options and we again look set to really let ourselves down in the transfer market for the fourth window in a row.

The club seems to get an easy ride from others based on past transfer activity, which is largely down to Amanda Staveley who isn't here anymore and no-one has filled the void she left behind with her passion, drive, energy and desire to get this club to the top.

The problem with just pay them is we would have ended up short.

Would folks have described a window of Trafford 40m, Joao Pedro 60m and Elanga for 55m as enough? The reason they have budgets per player is to ensure we get everything we need.

For me, the initial targeting has been the issue too, its too narrow I understand why it's that way and I'm not going to knock anyone for it.

It’s just not as simple as “we should bid 10m more for every player.” If we do so, there’s still nothing to stop the selling club from knocking on Liverpool or Manchester City’s door and asking if they’ll do the same.

The fundamental challenge here is that we are competing for the same signings with a handful of clubs that can spend much more than we can, can offer larger fees and higher wages, and have all decided to do so this summer.

This is not Football Manager. You do not progress directly to the “offer contract” screen once you meet the asking price.

Which of those players did Andy Howe bring in?

Not sure if our interest in him was ever genuine, but looks like Lucas Chevalier is off to PSG for £40m.

No idea what Donnaruma is asking for if he's struggling agree terms with PSG for a new contract.
