NUFC Transfer Rumours

Getting in a striker doesn’t seem realistic unless we move Wissa or Wolte on. We play 1 upfront and won’t be in the CL next season.

The squad doesn't need major surely. A GK and a CM to impact the first eleven and cover across the defence would do fine, depending on outgoings of course

I’d add a RW to that - but yeah, that’s about right.

Yup. We spent 130m eight months ago on these strikers. They are going to be the strikers we have for the foreseeable future, might as well figure out a way to use them.

New signings will be focused on the areas where we have players fully amortized/aging out.

Hindsight but there was surely a willing buyer for Murphy in the £20m region last summer? Could have given us a squad space to sign a similarly priced Anderlecht regen that so many crave.

Actually not worth it to sell him imo. His output is great for price.

Madness that were almost 5 years into the takeover and we still need a decent option at RW, its been a problem area since day 1

We had one of the most promising RW's in Europe. And then we ran into a PSR wall and had to sell him. I think people underestimate the damage PSR has done to us. We caught up with the top clubs relatively quickly post-takeover but at the expense that it's kneecapped our growth in the next period.

2 goals and 3 assists in 16 starts & 10 sub apps.

I'm presuming he's considering the previous two seasons. But even this season on a per 90 basis he's averaging a goal or assist every 3 games which ain't bad.

And this is where we fail a bit as a club. It's clear Murphy was performing above his ability (similar to Miggy), he's 30 now, we've probably lost our chances at a decent fee for him now. He likely stays until his contract is up or goes for a nominal fee. He was never going to keep that level of numbers up into his 30s. People kept saying he was perfect for Isak, but Isak was also perfect for him.

His numbers have been consistent for a couple of years. I don't think not selling Murphy is a failing of the club. Sometimes players have more value to your club than they do others.

It is ridiculous, such poor planning

What should we have done to avoid the tags of ridiculous and poor planning? Is it not more that the position has been occupied by unpopular players, or players who the manager has got playing well above their baseline? It certainly wasn't a problem area by any stretch last season, Murphy was brilliant. We also got a fee for Miggy a year ago and invested in - theoretically - a massive upgrade in Elanga at the point at which we could.

Now look up some of our other attackers and compare. This is great for the price

I'm not attributing blame specifically to Howe or the club, we tried to rectify the situation in the summer but we were thwarted by PSR and the club's that don't have to follow the rules and we weren't to know that Elanga wouldn't take the step up very well.

I still think he was bought for precisely tha purpose.  Part of the issue is that he’s the only one we’ve done it with - Chelsea in particular has done this really well over the years.

We’ve been shite sellers for some time.  You sell at peak value under PSR to move on.

If we had decent forwards he'd have 10 assists

One trick pony which was great with Isak. He puts balls in dangerous areas but rarely actually looks up. He just puts ball in an area.

Mentioned after a recent match, Wissa scored 3 of his 19 last season from RW passes/crosses, Woltemade isn't that sort of striker.

And this is where cashing in when he's at his peak while we have to move to a different way of playing and different styles of strikers comes in.

We've done the same with Willock by all accounts this window. £40m potentially gone lost out on players we'll never get that sort of money for again, while we are hampered by PSR?

Love where the club is going, I just think our inability to sell the "non-purples" at the right time is a weakness.

If the forwards were firing, Elanga would have a few more too. Gordon and Barnes have fluffed a couple he's put on a plate for them.

Aye we aren't great sellers it's true, I think we are way past that point with Murphy tbh. Very little point selling him he's good to keep in the squad.
