He was very poor but Gordon offered him absolutely no protection at all.

This. Gordon hung him out to dry. It was obvious he needed protecting to calm the storm, but Gordon just strolled around or stopped too high up the pitch.

We were 4-2-3-1 with Joelinton in behind Isak in possession first half, too, which exposed him even more. He’s remarkably consistent for his age, but it did feel like Bournemouth targeted that side of our back four yesterday and got rewarded.

Games like that are a really good learning opportunity for young fullbacks. Would really like Schar replaced in the near future.

We seemed to be deliberately trying to keep Murphy and Gordon up against their back line in the first half with Joelinton as more of a 10 than usual in an attempt to link play. Felt like we were trying to manufacture counter attacking opportunities in behind them.

Credit to Howe for trying something different against Iraola who has schooled him in the past, but it didn’t work. Both full backs got exposed badly. Isak way less involved than usual too.

Sorry, tin hat on...

Hall always suffers against any winger with real pace, he was targeted because this is his main/only fault. As long as they have a few yards to poke the ball past him he is beaten for pace every time.

His confidence get's eroded when this happens and he starts to back off and give them a couole of yards which leads to crosses in...

Normally he has good protection from Joe and Gordon but saturday was not up to standard! Strange tactics or just pure fatigue?

Any full back will lose against a winger with pace if they are one on one every time :D Need to be like a prime Ashley Cole otherwise.

You can get a full back that matches pace like a Davies, but then often you see them have lapses of concentration when play is on other side of pitch and not be goal side. Probably because they’ve used pace as a get out so often in their career.

Having a CB that can eat up ground in seconds is key for a top side. Just makes attackers question themselves and gets side thinking outside of ‘clip it direct’.
