He's got the lovely double effect of being brilliant and also stopping us having to play Burn in his spot. Really important player for us. Spent the first half getting confused between him and Barnes because they kept ending up in the same attacking positions, makes the left side very dangerous. And the cross for Thiaw was a gem. He's gonna keep getting better too!

Needs a pay rise just for the delivery of the corner for the first goal, fantastic.

That was Miley tho? Hope we see him in the Joelinton role in the future.

I know I've probably posted this circa 10 times, but I couldn't believe when we were able to get Hall out of Chelsea. Assumed he'd be Chelsea and England LB for 10 years. They are idiots and we are massive winners here.

It's not like his emergence is a surprise either, he looked superb at Chelsea as a kid when he first emerged.

Can only assume Newcastle offered him a clearer pathway.

They already have one of the best left backs in the league, so he'd have struggled for game time there.

I have a theory that fullback is the most undervalued position in football. Even seen Gary Neville say a FB isn't as valuable as a CB on the overlap, when ex-players were discussing what their current values might be now.

Top fullbacks ideally have the athleticism and defensive 1v1 ability to cope with an opponent's quickest and trickiest attacking threats as well as general defensive instincts. They need the engine to get up and down the touchline all game long and the technique and passing and ideally dribbling to move the ball out of defense and contribute in the attacking third.

They need a very well-rounded skillset and can't really afford to struggle in any area (unless you're Trent). They're just very important in defence, progression and attack (see how important Trips was to us as his peak). Anyway, Lewis Hall's a bloody good one, and still relatively inexperienced as well.

We have demonstrated this season how important dynamic fullbacks are in the modern game. Without Hall and Tino we look a bottom 8 side. With them both in the team, we look a top 6 side.

It's definitely undervalued in the game as a whole, and is almost certainly the most important position in our system.

Having strong backup options on both sides is essential if we want to become a top 4 four side consistently.

Especially important if you want to play football from the back, which is how we have been progressing since Howe took over. He deserves a lot of credit for chasing both full backs, there was plenty of people wondering why we were spending £80m on full backs who were still relatively unproven.

Don't want him to change positions but I suspect he'd be equally good at left wing or central midfield, either offensively or defensively.

He's got one hell of a skillset.

Lewis Hall is excellent.

I think fundamentally a fullback in this era is usually a failed CM or Winger back in the day it would be a failed CB.  If they were better at football thats where they would play.

I think one reason England have struggled a bit in recent times to develop CMs is because our best young talent baller CM types get shifted to fullback or attack because playing CM at a top club is too much responsibility. Think about the best academies in England - they produce relatively few CMs (Chelsea, City specifically).
