Don't get me wrong like, I know what you're getting at, they didn't look that impressive and we Underperformed, I'm just trying to remind myself of how far we've come in such a short space of time

Disco
A lot of huff and puff but quality and speed of decision in the final third was the difference.
El Prontonise
Thought we played well as a team but individually quite poor in midfield. Best quality of the the game won it. City are a boring side to watch as I've said many times before.
Abacus
We were playing a very very good team, maybe one of the best there has ever been in club football. But I feel we showed them far too much respect in the first half and stepped off. We caused them problems when we tried to play our own game later. No grumbles with the result - they deserved to win. I just feel we could have given them more of a scare and would have done with the handbrake off. Still, there's the return leg.
Shays Given Tim Flowers
Yeah the De Bruyne absence was a good thing for us, but let’s not pretend that they aren’t good without him. Like they won the league pre-Haaland without a striker.
Kid Icarus
They really are. Every team trying Tika taka is over thankfully, but yeah they're so boring. And I have said that for years. I say that as someone who thinks Barca 08-15 is the best and most exciting team to watch as well FWIW.
midds
One negative for me, and it's only a slight one tbh, is that we've already got Tonali and Bruno on 2 yellows after 2 games, Joelinton is on 1. That will cat h up with us later on in the Autumn as they reach 5 and maybe 10 before Xmas. Yeah we got a chasing tonight but some of the cards so far have been either soft/thick
HaydnNUFC
A 4 goal margin win against a team in claret and blue at SJP live on Sky on the opening day to losing 1-0 away at Man City the following week in the first away game. 3rd and CL progression it is. Hope we don't get battered by Inter Milan at SJP 1-4 again. Or lose 2-6 at home to the fanboys of dangerous wronguns.

Even the city fans seem to have no passion for the football they play. It's not entertaining to watch. They seemed to play a little more expansive last season but have completely reverted to type. I can't wait for the city era to be over.

Dr Jinx
If you watch boxing you’ll get the reference but I liken the way City play to how Usyk fights.. his footwork is so good he can literally just wear out opponents by keeping them moving about and trying to guess where the attack will come from. His opponents over commit to attacks and again, the footwork is so good he’s rarely there when they do attack so they just waste more energy.

All I know is if every team in the premier League played like city no fucker would watch it. To use your boxing analogy most people want to see a knock out. Seemed wierd the tonali yellow was a slight nudge even Gordon's yellow he catches him but didn't need dias rolling about like he'd been chivved Thing that annoyed me with the Tonali one was that Alvarez then went and done the same thing 30 seconds later and wasn’t booked. There’s just no consistency.

We’re playing for 2nd, not 1st, basically. Good to get this the fuck out the way too. Good learning for Howe. Which is exactly what this club needs this early - Howe identifying and obsessing over fixing frailties to a team like City.

Mattoon
Hardest start in the league statistically, hardest game in the season tonight and we came out with a single goal loss. A few points to note, Grealish is overrated, spent most of the time on the deck moaning at the ref (how he didn't get a yellow I'll never know) Foden is a class above, he was unreal tonight and when he's like that he's unplayable. I thought we defended magnificently, although we fell far too deep too quickly in the first half, we were more balanced in the second and for some poor judgement could have got something tonight. I said it before and I'll say it again, yes we made mistakes and yes we were far from our best, but City strangled and suffocated us out of the game, forced us into errors and quick decisions that were ultimately mistakes that turned the ball over. I don't think we had anything to be ashamed of or that any of our players deserve any particular vitriol. We were beaten by a side that even weakened, is better than us in every department. On to Liverpool and as others have said, we need to bounce back and give that arrogant prick Klopp a lesson, we owe them for two horrific games last season. For me, beating Liverpool is a lot more important than City away.

We’re City a boring team to watch when we drew at SJP 3-3 last season, sometimes when a team has 6 or 7 first team injuries they have to dig in to get a result. City should of won this game 2-0 or 3-0 if Haaland had his shooting boots on. Newcastle didn’t turn up it happens in football, no need to have a go at City because of it. Whitley mag
We still haven’t got our De Bruyne or Salah difference maker teams need against the best. I think Barnes and Gordon are decent signings at this point and where we’re currently at, but still don’t think we’ve got enough quality in final 3rd against the real top teams. Tonight’s a good reality check and will keep expectations in check, we’ll be around top 6 but still at least 3 players short of competing with the very best. In many ways the next step will be the hardest for Howe as expectations are through the roof.
Jesse Pinkman
To be honest players like ASM or Maddison would have made a huge different this game. We are lacking those truly creative players in midfield that can make something out of nothing. If teams mark Isak out the game, our creativity in 1 in 1 situations isn’t that great. Look at Foden today where he was almost unplayable one on one. If we are being honest Gordon is going to have to improve a lot to justify the ASM sale.
