He's literally blarted his good luck load in one fixture. Imagine the feeling when he sees a scrappy 1-0 defeat off someone like Luton now Such a ridiculous take ? I took a lifelong Newcastle supporter who lived in the south to the home match against Aston Villa in 2005. That was definitely the worst possible first trip to St James'

So going back to his commentary on Almiron’s goal he made a mention of a ‘awakened his sleeping sword of war’ at the time I thought it was just a silly thing that came to his head. I’m watching the Hollow Crown (the high budget Shakespeare adaptations on the BBC) and it turns out that line is quote from Henry V where they are convincing him to go to war with France (and onto the victory at Agincourt). Quite the reference from wor Ray there! Edited November 25, 2023 by GeordieDazzler
Kid Icarus
Anyone else periodically go back to watching this and peak hard? My memory might be getting the better of me but the Man Utd 5-0 and Barcelona 3-2 were instant classics. Why do I feel like this isn't the same when it should be? I feel like we should still be talking about it. It's mad to think that this happened during this season, which has otherwise been incredibly challenging. It gives a hint though, we did this without Botman, Willock, Joelinton, Wilson, and Barnes Schär's goal is an all time moment for me, including the commentary. Up there with "on a day when Newcastle would have taken 1 nil, here they are looking for number 5...", truly a moment when Fletcher's hype commentary suited the situation. It wasn't flukey or a hold on situation either (Barca was tbh) we were fucking incredible. Best 90 minutes I've ever had in SJP. AyeDubbleYoo
Watched on my laptop from a hotel bar in Czechia, fairly difficult to keep it together with lots of confused Europeans around.

huss9
i cried after miggy got the first. just the best night before during and after the game. find it hard watching it because of what came after - fucking robbed! just glad i got to be there with my kids for this. fuck knows if it happens again. found it really hard to watch the villa bayern game the other night - no issues watching citeh in the champo league. but with villa it was jealousy and a case of "that should be us". Chicken Dancer
What a special night that was. I've never seen St James' like it was that night. Everyone was in their seats about 25 minutes before the game. Concourses were bouncing, town was electric. It really was my favourite memory out of hundreds and hundreds of Newcastle games. It really made me emotional that prominent figures in my life who were part of my NUFC journey like my brother and my Grandad were no longer with me to experience it. I will die a very happy man if my kids get to experience something similar. It really was something that will last a lifetime.

Smal
7 minutes here. Mostly I love that it was Miggy, Longstaff, Burn and Schar who got the goals with Big Jam skipper . Just makes it more special somehow.
Tiresias
It's really worth remembering that night when people are really (and not unjustly) critical of Longstaff in particular. I am frustrated at him giving the ball away cheaply way too much but people seem to think that's his level, it's not, he's not consistent enough tbh to play at the real top level but he can be better than he has been and deserves better than being totally binned off which some have suggested...
