Luton Town 1-0 Newcastle United (23/12/23)

Its simply a continued perfect storm when combined with the shittorm of injuries.

- We gambled on Howe getting the most out of much of the dross we had and saving that FFP for future windows.

- Howe wanted to keep harmony when we could have upgraded players like Ritchie and Dummett to give actual options of the bench.

- Given the injuries and high press tactically players physically can't cope with the amount of games they are playing.

We are dead on our feet and confidence draining away at a high pace than we can press.

Intention isnt enough, defender needs to have the ball under control for it not to count as offside.

"

A player in an offside position receiving the ball from an opponent who deliberately played* the ball, including by deliberate handball, is not considered to have gained an advantage, unless it was a deliberate save by any opponent.

*‘Deliberate play’ (excluding deliberate handball) is when a player has control of the ball with the possibility of:

passing the ball to a team-mate;

gaining possession of the ball; or

clearing the ball (e.g. by kicking or heading it)

If the pass, attempt to gain possession or clearance by the player in control of the ball is inaccurate or unsuccessful, this does not negate the fact that the player ‘deliberately played’ the ball.

I need to see it again but i would say it was an unsuccessful attempt to gain possession or clearance, what else is he doing otherwise?

Appreciate they have run Man City, Arsenal, etc... close recently, but losing 1-0 to a side in the bottom 3 really isn't good enough for a team with our ambitions. Genuinely thought before a ball was kicked this season, that we'd be able to cement Top 4/5, might not even get to that at the moment.

Hall imo has some kind of trigger in his contract that if he plays certain minutes in PL we need to buy him and maybe Howe based on what he has seen decided not wanting him so we dont play him enough to reach the mandatory buy trigger.

As poor a performance as ive seen under Howe this. We've looked absolutely knackered and the confidence looks shot. Occasionally when we manage to play a bit of football we look like we can get in but we just don't seem able to sustain passages of play. Screaming out for subs for us to try and bring some freshness and legs to the side.

There’s absolutely no chance of top 4/5.

Did he have control over the ball? Or was he under pressure/had a short time to react?
