What position with Isak? Who’s to say if he signs that contract in 2024, we’re still here with him linked away with 4 years left instead of 3, because he’s had a 20+ season again.

There’s nothing wrong with pulling the contract last summer seeing we wanted to make signings, PSR was a risk still and he had 4 years left. The Isak situation doesn’t change this summer regardless what happened last summer.

Edit: If Isak is pissy about the contract, then I don’t believe it one second and it’s deflection from the club. Because if anything he’s in a stronger position this summer to get better terms than he would’ve got last summer if it’s about money / recognition.

If Paul Mitchell was at fault regarding Isak’s contract (very much might been at fault), then why haven’t we tried to correct that? It’s not that long ago since the season ended. All the talk has been that there will be discussions about a new one after the season has ended and that Isak has been very relaxed about it. We might have tried, I don’t know. I just don’t think the biggest reason he hasn’t signed a new one is because of PM’s failings.

I think it’s more about Isak maybe not wanting sign a new one (unless a relatively low RC). Or maybe he doesn’t believe in the project as much anymore. We’ve not done much recruitment wise to convince him that we are going places. Even further that is. Who knows.

He canceled contract talks that subsequently led the club to the position it’s now in with Isak, whether you wanted him to sign a 20m winger who became the next Mbuemo or something or not, it’s the biggest fucking own goal imaginable from the club and hopefully can be fixed in the coming weeks. If you don’t see past that or you think it’s some excuse now to just blame a guy who’s gone, I really don’t know what to tell you.

Its the Trafford stuff that gets me, if true of course.

Well he flogged Kelly for good money shifted miggy for a decent amount. Told us about the state of the scouting system In place at the club mentioned we had to widen our net in the foreign market to get better value.

obviously he's not been allowed to change that system whether that be eddie been happy with the system In place or prefers his own picks to Mitchell's alternatives.

Pinning the Isak and Trafford stuff on him really annoys me. It's obvious to anyone who has read anything about the club that we were once again razor tight on PSR this year - which is why we signed only Osula last Summer and sold Almiron and Kelly in January. We certainly could have re-signed Isak and signed Trafford - and then sat ourselves down on June 30 and watched the fire sale to meet the PSR deadline become an annual tradition instead of a horrible one-off.

Yet we were heavily bidding for Guehi last summer when Mitchell supposedly pulled the plug on a £20m Trafford deal? I think there is some weight to these things we are hearing now.

Mitchell left at the worst possible time, its like a teacher leaving the week before term starts, if your a decent person you just don't drop people in it like that.

Selfish Toad.

He pulled the plug on a keeper deal, needlessly chased after Guehi and told everyone at the club he’d get it done and got messed about by Parish. He then randomly tried to get Elanga on deadline day with Miggy going that way. He said no new contract for Isak. He boldly criticized our scouting even though Nickson’s hit rate is absolute top bin.

His job was to be the main football man at board level to do whatever it is that continues to take the club forward, which includes finding a happy medium with the top class manager we have, he seemingly just coasted through that and walked out while Eddie was on holiday. Useless. and Yes, I’m pinning a lot on him, as i am with Eales. As I am with PIF and the board.

the only ones seemingly doing right by us are the coaches and players.

Not sure if he left or was pushed tbh. If Eddie didn't trust him then he was better off without him.

Sorry but this one has to be put on Eales who should also have gone much earlier since I think he was not in the right state to make decisions with his ill health.

Don’t know what his contract was either. Could have a break clause which he activated, and that’s just as much on the club for allowing such a thing.

Honestly slightly hyperbolic but my impression now is that Mitchell did such a bad job that he might as well have been an agent for the big six. Have I cracked? I feel like I may have crossed the sanity Rubicon.

Think he's a chancer bellwhiff and fucked us big time but he's being scapegoated to fuck by the local journos who invariably know fuck all yet get all captain hindsight on every detail after the fact. Shite all round really.

Agreed - and as always, doing so with zero fucking analysis.  Yes, he’s a bit of a chancer - but why was that not obvious?  There were issues within days of his appointment.  Why is there a massive vacuum in executive positions?  Is there an actual vision for how the club will be run?

I get it’s too much to ask to have actual journalists covering NE football, but it might actually produce some copy for them beyond pretending to have insider knowledge on transfers.
