I'm really reserving judgement on Mitchell. I've been Team Eddie from the start and believe Mitchell was happy to upset the applecart when he came in by slagging off the systems and people and, with no inside knowledge, I presumed it was because he wanted his mate Poch in. There is nothing to base this on other than gut feel. Eales has had an easy ride as the PSR over spend was on his watch and he manoeuvred the blame on Amanda and Mehrdad and remained unscathed. Eddie performed wonders and neither Eales or Mitchell have achieved anything for Newcastle yet. The next 10 weeks will be very interesting as to whether they are as elite in their roles as Eddie is in his. I hope they are.

Bit harsh on Eales. That PSR overspend built the team which won us a cup and achieved CL.

Well so far he's done the sum total of fuck all, so anything from here is a vast improvement

Being fair moving Miggy and Kelly out for fees in January wasn't fuck all and will help us in this window.

It was a move some didn't want us to do and it could have backfired.

The overspend can also viewed as a gamble to assemble a team (not squad), that's capable of punching above its weight. Nonetheless, with a Trophy and Champions Leage spot for next season, the "gamble" paid off. Whilst it wasn't as direct a gamble as Villa's Jan transfer push, it was a more calculated gamble, and it paid off !

Inside the Newcastle United summer transfer summit at Alnwick Castle. YAR, joined by Eddie Howe, Darren Eales and Paul Mitchell, among others, sit around an imposing table. A 65 inch TV at the end of the table displays this thread. YAR, turning his head of Mitchell, begins reeling off a selection of comments...

I think alot people's expectations for this window are already at such a height that it's going to be difficult to match.

We obviously will still have limitations and if they go too big now then it's going to just mean another set of zero activity windows like we have just endured.

Really hope we get some depth as we're pretty desperate going into next year, but I'm not expecting too many high profile names to walk through the door.

He said our past transfers are “not fit for purpose”.

Then basically Howe won a cup the first time in 70 years and go back to ECL without any reinforcement for 3 windows.

Genuine question, how can the fans not expecting Mitch to deliver this window? He totally deserved this.

If we can get two or 3 big top level signings and a couple of younger potential players I will be pretty pleased.

We are going to be linked to everyone under the sun. Already have. Tempering expectation is hard to do. Time is now to give Eddie what he needs to take us to a higher level though.

Absolutely no reason why club officials wouldn't read this forum. It's an easily accessible seemingly genuine (for the most part) source to a small portion of the fan base. They may read it but actually using quotes from it at official meetings seems a bit ridiculous.

He came into the job and almost instantly had to sell two promising young players to avoid a points deduction.

I think the comment was ill judged but not a criticism of who Howe etc had signed, just the PSR position the club was in, which is probably fair comment.
