Paul Mitchell to leave club by mutual consent at end of June (Official)

Really poor look for the club. What's the point of a sporting director that's only in for a year? And awful timing in terms of negotiating with other clubs, assume he's got a list of targets handed over at least, and now we need to bid before he takes that list to the next club.

Wtf, if this fucks up another transfer window then you have got to start thinking about if the owners actually know how to run a football club.

What do we think, 24 or 48hrs before Callums new 2 year deal is announced.

After a cup win, another final appearance and 2 champs lge qualifications...

At least it's done quickly before any business really begins. Gets rid of any conflict or debate slowing down the process of building for next season. Hopefully that's everyone aligned now to go out and get what's needed. Compromised decisions are probably not what's required.

"Mitchell leaves with the full respect of the hierarchy, technical team, coaching staff and players. His exit is not expected to impact the summer’s transfer business with the club having already identified clear targets during meetings over a number of months."

Story up on the Athletic now

Eales and the timing of him leaving was always known. I’m hoping this is old news to the boardroom and ducks are lined up whatever they are in the interim.

Depends if who they want needs to go on gardening leave or not may be we roll with who we have and hope the role is recruited to align with these choices.

Also agreed Eales going is and was well known but I for one didn't expect him to still be in post all those months later with no leaks as yet if anyone is waiting to step in. All feels like alot of upheaval at a bad time.

Seems to me that there was a clear conflict in terms of targets and we've backed Eddie.

Love Eddie and it's the right call to back him but do still think this is going to cause issues in the long run that Eddie is literally wants almost complete control in an era where that isn't really a thing.

I know it isn't the fashionable thing to do anymore, but the way I see it, if Howe was just a DoF and not also a Manager, he (with Nickson anyway) would be as coveted as anyone we'd be considering

Well this is balls.

I thought Eddie's comments about speaking to PIF about transfers seemed weird.

Possibly Eddie with the powerplay!

Incredibly poor timing as others have mentioned. Seems like the worst possible time unless we have had someone lined up for a while.

Getting CL twice in three years and winning our first major domestic trophy in 70 years suggests that the owners have done a pretty good job of running the football club so far.

To be fair, we've gotten the role wrong to this point so...

The job of Mitchell and the like should be to set the entire philosophy of the club, think Ajax think Barca. Yet both Ashworth and Mitchell appear to have been negligent in this area.
