It maybe that Eddie wants nothing but British players that will cost a lot more than foreign players thus reduces the numbers we can take to get the squad numbers up, ultimately though he will have to work with a DOF else we will be in trouble. Following his illness he's already stated that there's more to life than football,

I mean, that's really not possible though is it. Who have we brought in on Eddie's watch not from the UK for big money ?

Bruno, Tonali, Isak, Botman ?

Evidently has nothing against players of quality from 4 3* different leagues that aren't the PL, 2 bought with potential in mind rather than proven talents.

Edit : *correction

Nickson and Eddie all the way. Neither Ferguson or Wenger had a D of F and I don't believe Eddie needs one either.

PIF obviously have Howes back and I for one am delighted.

Not sure if I'm delighted (due to the timing and I kind of wanted to see what Mitchell would come up with this window) but if it's Mitchell or Howe then it's Howe all day. I also think Howe did a great job in January 2022 overseeing the transfers and I trust his eye for a player, as I did Keegan's.

I firmly believe that a manager should have the most significant input on first team incomings and outgoings, with a DoF sense-checking it in the context of value for money, and taking an holistic approach with regards to continuity throughout the club. I appreciate that in the modern era a DoF has that role to play and ideally you have a manager and DoF who have an excellent working relationship and who trust each other. However, the manager is always going to have the greater impact on the direction of the club/results in general, and when you separate recruitment from the manager (as we did under Ashley) it rarely works.

Eddie has earned this trust though. Let's just hope we have the team behind the scenes to pull it off this window as Eddie needs to hand over his list and then take a proper break this summer.

Well, its never dull is it.

He came in with a lot of hype and prestige against his name, but ultimately seemed like he caused rifts internally and like he was needlessly antagonistic at times. I can't really say this is a surprise, after his set of interviews during the International break last September, it felt like the writing was on the wall a little bit. He felt very at odds with the culture of the club, and seems to be critical of it, so if that is the case, him leaving is for the better. Part of me wonders (And this is pure conjecture on my part) if he was half hoping we wouldn't have the season we just had and he could replace Howe with his own man, and change the club around however he imagined it, but with Howe delivering the best season is everyone's lifetime, the roles flipped and now Howe is the one who is emboldened. Which i'm here for massively tbh.

So thanks for selling Kelly I guess.

Think it's been obvious from the start Howe and Mitchell can't work with each other. Pleased they've basically sorted it 2 days after the season ended so we're not in the same situation as last season.

Howe in control of transfers then. He's earned that right in my opinion.

Feel obligated ask if we have any evidence of there ever really being a power struggle beyond our own gossiping housewives speculation?

Did Howe and Mitchell not have a few digs at each other last August ?

Mitchell's ill-fated interview never sat well with me - nervousness or miss-sppeaking aside, there didn't seem to be any correction/qualification of him just being damning of the approach in the market until he arrived.

I mean him doing interviews saying technically he can sack Howe didn't scream best of relationships did it

Was just gonna say, have any of the hacks actually provided any clue as to why he's gone? The assumptions everyone is making seem sound, given the duties of his role, but it could be any reason at this point.

Reported in local rags but nothing concrete. Seems the most likely case that Mitchell wasnt liked. I dont fully understand what a Sporting Director even does if im honest.

Howe beat Mitchell in an arm wrestle, and tension has ran high ever since. Tindall's bukkake party ruined the poor cunts carpet. He had to go

Whatever has happened over the last few months it's clear that Howe has cemented his place as the most important person within the club. He's delivered silverware and Champions League football despite a lack of strengthening over the last 3 windows and the bloke at the very top has clearly backed him over Mitchell. Just need a replacement named and into the club asap so it's a clean handover. That's about as much as we can hope for now
