There’s no defender in football able to keep up with Ekiteke on that kind of run.

Van de Ven for a start

Thiaw wasn’t even sprinting for a lot of it and neither was Ekitike. It seemed to play out in slow motion.

The issue is whether you think he was right to leave so much space and show him wide. Or like me, if you think he was too far away and engaged too late.

He could easily have cut the angle off without over-committing and then be able to close the shot sooner.

I agree with others that it was more on Trippier finding himself in no man’s land. For about the 20th time since his return to the side.

He needs a rest - mistakes are starting to creep in because he's shattered.

It's not a physical problem, he made those mistakes with us too... he's a good defender but his defensive reading is lacking and ,above all, his positioning mistakes are numerous.

If my team played a CL final and I had to choose between him and Burn as CB, I would have no doubts in choosing Burn.

I'm glad he's actually been shit all along so now we don't have to say "all of the singings were shit except Thiaw", makes it much easier to be able to just lump all the Summer 25ers together.

He's got fuck all cover which doesn't help. Trips is a legend but we can't play this man for man high up the pitch suicidal defending if he's starting.

After 20 minutes, even though we were on top, I turned to the wife and said"Tripps looks and plays like an old man".

Shagging like a 20 year old though.

Here is something I don't get. He looks great and I don't think there is much debate over if he was the best signing of the summer BUT we do seem to be defensively vulnerable when he is in the team. This could be due to other factors, like the midfield going missing and Trippier's marked decline. But I do think he might lack a little in terms of defensive leadership that Schär and Burn bring. I think the reality is probably a combination of the three and I'm sure he can develop in this area. Just wondering if others share this perception.

No coincedence he's looked shaky since Trippier's come back into the team. Unfortunately says a lot about Trippier nowadays when Miley looks a lot more solid there (no disrespect to our wunderkind).

He's had a very promising PL debut season, but playing 30+ games in a row and having Trippier next to him is starting to take its toll.

Long term I don’t think him, Hall, Botman,  Livra is the solution. I think we need a true leader in there.

Thiaw is still young. Leadership will come with experience.

It's still his first season in the PL, leadership could come in a season or two.

At the moment we have other leaders in the group he will learn from. Bruno, Burn etc.

Been a highlight and bright spot of the season and the negativity has now creeped over here? Fuck me. Y’all can’t be happy can you?

the Arsenal back 4 of Dixon, Adam’s, Keown and Winterburn would look shakey with the way our midfield is set out.

But what I will say is that they don’t half like defending in reverse, may well be linked to the Pacific sized gap between midfield and defence but on every attack we defend by running back towards or box.

We must cover miles in reverse every game

I think you're right, but Schar and Burn also lacked that at 24. Will be interesting to see if Thiaw and Botman are able to step up and take the reigns so to speak once Schar and Burn have moved on.

Burn also looked exposed since he's come back in, and he's normally a very solid defender at CB. I think the lack of pace at RB and Joelinton not being there as the enforcer is hurting us badly defensively.

Of the three reasons I suggest for why I think he's been part of a weak defence I'm inclined to agree with you that these are the bigger factors but I do think that the defence lacks leaders and overall organisation at the moment and he's part of this issue. I also pretty sure he can develop this over time, he's still looked like a really good buy so far.

He's the one we scouted the longest out of all the summer singings so not surprising that he's by far the best. (Of course, Elanga was a long scout too... Nobody's perfect).
