Dr Jinx
Don’t even care at this point. We need someone in as like someone else pointed out earlier, we’re fucked if Schär gets injured early in season. If this deal can’t happen, we need to be moving on quickly. Paully
I'm convinced this will go through - we'd have walked away by now if we weren't very confident and there were encouraging tweets from Downie and Graves last night too. He comes across superbly in that SSN interview.

If the NUFC side felt it was dead we’d be deluged by articles saying as much from well placed NE press pack.
Matt1892
I think there is a good chance it goes through, the concern I have is that after the posturing of the last few days I don’t think it is going to go through any time soon unless we increase our bid even further. The longer we hang on the more we can’t afford for it not to go through, as we will have problems. I don’t have faith in the club getting a short term replacement in either, we have seen in previous windows where we have been crying out for a stop gap but they have gone with what we have. Zero
Anyone genuinely support the idea to meet Palace asking price? 70m pounds + add ons. I am speechless, if there’s any

Shearergol
£50m itself is an incredible fee for him imo. There’s no doubting his ability but he’s nowhere near a £70m player.

I am speechless, if there’s any I do. But then I’m a big fan of Guehi and believe he’s ready to make that step up. Paying that money will be daft on face value, as any deal around that figure is. But we’ll get the value by him being a key starter for rest of this decade, and him being a key starter for England over next 4 years as they head to a home euros. 2 years down the line, could have likes of Man City knocking and wanting to spend £80m+ because of the form and how World Cup went. Yorkie
Apropos of nothing I thought he came across like an unbelievably canny lad in that interview. If £70m includes £10m for how sound he is then I can understand that.

Maguire was 80m and very highly rated when he signed for Manchester United, it turned out to be a trash transfer but that doesn’t negate that he was very very good for Leicester before that. We could spend 40m on Guehi and it turn out to be a massive waste of money. But that’s essentially what we’re buying.. Maguire at Leicester potential (albeit he’s got more pace, but nowhere near as good in the air) If it’s 65m and he turns out to the final piece of the jigsaw, that could end up looking cheap. There’s no way of knowing until he’s actually here and had a chance to contribute.

Just yet another example of Man Utd massively overpaying for a player.

Oh they got rinsed but at the time I don’t remember much mockery at the fee, more so a resignation that we’d never be able to compete for transfers like that. All I remember was (roughly within the same time frame) Maguire - 80m - dud VVD - 75m - transformative I’m guessing Guehi might be somewhere in between
Dr.Spaceman
Between transformative and dud? Well you'd hope so. Between 75-80m you'd hope not, nobody is buying him for that much and Palace will just end up losing him for nowt. I can absolutely see us losing one of our elites next summer if this is the way the transfer window is going to be moving forward. Unless of course this Man City thing comes off and we're able to join in with the shenanigans.
