Don't mistakenly mix them together with those who thought it was too much to pay for someone Howe wouldn't give any chances until it was way overdue, when the money spent could have been used to better effect elsewhere. Although both were wrong, the argument from the latter group was much more rational. Cogito ergo sum, the fans usually knaa nowt and get it wrong because they’re opinionated dafties who might think they’re experts in player recruitment, coaching, tactics and performance analysis, but they’re actually not Edited December 23, 2025 by bobbydazzla

The College Dropout
He didn’t go full pelt because he was thinking about what to do next. contrast to his best moments for Forest where he’s just playing off instinct. In those circumstances he definitely should’ve passed.

Poor decision-making at the end but you know he'll have had a shot in mind from the moment he scampered away, and he's obviously so desperate to get going for us. It doesn't help us but I did have some sympathy; gifted by only experiencing the moment through highlights. I don't think anyone else in the side even gets into that position so it's a promising sign. Happy to clutch at straws, all we can do is hope he gets better so I'm choosing to! Avatar is changed by the end of Jan. I can feel it. Yeah I said earlier in the thread, I don't mind seeing a player try to do something positive when they're in a rut. It doesn't mean he's turned a corner, but berating him for that felt harsh, I reckon most players in the league would have taken a shot there after they'd made a sprint like that. Gordon and Barnes both almost certainly shoot in that position too.
Whitley mag
Oh for the days of a cultured winger like Scott Sellars who can get their head up and pick a pass. Edited December 23, 2025 by Whitley mag
AyeDubbleYoo
He contributed to 3 very dangerous moves in about 15 minutes, should've really been 1-2 goals from that. Of course he missed one himself, but some signs of light IMO. He's not messing up everything.

AyeDubbleYoo
I never said he created the chances, he was just an important part of the moves. We all know he didn't get a shot on target, so not sure how those stats are relevant.

Arguably should have squared it but made a chance which obviously he missed. It's not world class or anything but it's good play and IMO an improvement. FWIW I think he's been crap since he came obviously, but he can compete in the PL in theory. Edited December 23, 2025 by AyeDubbleYoo
bobbydazzla
Fucking stats man. You can be in the ground or watching it on telly and see it with your own eyes, but if it's not in the stats apparently it never happened. The worlds gone mad. Was sickening to realise that in this context maybe xg has its place, although I quickly pulled myself together and realised that maiden overs can be incontrovertibly counted while xg is still just a spurious made up decimal number

A maiden over is a historical fact. It's an over bowled without conceding a run. It doesn't matter how the over was bowled, or what the batsmen did, or what day of the test it was, or anything else. The simple fact is that no runs were conceded. xG is not a fact. It's a predictive statistic. Edited December 23, 2025 by bobbydazzla

Hall was a prospect at the time, Elanga is proven. Hall was brought in to be a future starting left back, while Elanga was brought in to be a starter. Tbh I dont know anyone in Howe's area that can compare, closes is Gordon. When we signed Hall, we needed a left back or at least a backup for the left back. It looked like Howe at the time would play anyone than Hall, which was a litle bit strange as injury crisis hit us bad. At the time it was imo ok to question the signing, why sign someone that expensive to not even start when 1-5th choice was out, was this a Eddie Howe signing etc. When it comes to Elanga he really looks weak atm. I do think there is a good footballer there, who will/would suit Eddie's style of play. But im not sure if we are to big/ambitious for him, and that makes him nervous? I do think we need to send him to a shrink, coach and what ever to get his selfesteem back.

I do think we need to send him to a shrink, coach and what ever to get his selfesteem back. Go back and re-read my posts. I was comparing negative fan reaction to the Hall signing (£35m, unproven, Howe won’t pick him during loan spell etc) to the negative fan reaction of the Elanga signing (£55m, off to a poor start etc) I wasn’t comparing the players to each other. I was saying how fans will often get it wrong about the merits of signings because they’re not experts whereas Howe and the coaching staff are.
