I think we all hope that, if you're a Newcastle supporter you'd have to be a moron to not want him to come good for us but as I've said a few times before, I work in Nottingham and go to the Notts office 3 days a week. Speaking with several Notts forest supporters none of them were gutted he left and the actual feeling was we've overpaid and he's not that great.

I hope he comes good too, as we can't actually afford to miss on any transfer if we want to compete.

...but we're going to miss at some point, it's inevitable. It's more about minimising them than prevent them all together.

Granted I don't think there's many players Howe won't get a tune from given enough time on the training ground.

I think Elanga has the tools to be a £55m winger. I'm just not convinced he's got the character required at a club like Newcastle.

Anthony Elanga

Used to be quite good, I swear

Maybe should have stayed there

Was it ever announced what actual injury he had?

Not sure if he's actually injured or if I think we've just taken him out of the firing line for a bit and he's going to come back firing or if we're getting into "they've chopped his dick off lad" territory

Kick on the knee I think Eddie said at some point.

He's not reading this forum.

Anyways, listening to Eddie's PC today, it looks like we've had very little time on the training pitch, or anywhere near as much as he'd want. Elanga HAS to have suffered because of that.

You'd have to be incredibly ignorant to think it isn't.

Strong words when we’ve spent 200m on Barnes, Wissa, Ramsey and Elanga, and financial mismanagement had us panic sell Anderson and Minteh. Bit weird tbh.

I'd do it all over again if it meant we won another trophy.

"someone sell this to me coz dropping near £60m on Elanga doesn’t excite me at all"

"£55m we must be desperate, thats crazy money for someone who wont even take us to next level"

"I’m not convinced by him and especially not at that price"

"This is a very meh signing for me. Especially for the fee. £55m could get a world class player on the continent"

"55m for Elanga is way too much for a player like him."

"He's not worth £45 million, never mind £60 million. I would certainly hope we have moved on and looking at other options currently"

People were absolutely DESPERATE for a signing at the time, especially a RW. Looking back, it's weird how many good posters got it wrong about him, but I guess we need to give him another season to prove himself.

I thing that doesn't seem to taken into account was that this was all before Isak went on strike. Isak and Elanga was a pretty exciting prospect.

Overeacting is what NO does best.

Also, the euphoria on here some genuinely believed we were going to have both Isak and Ekitike... [emoji38]

You've listed maybe 10% of our transfers under Howe and 20% of the expenditure. None of the players we're in any position to call failures yet as most were signed 4 months ago and one of which has been a success and doesn't belong on your list at all. So even the players you're using as examples aren't particularly strong ones and ignore the huge list of undisputed successful signings that make up the majority.

Financial mismanagement did lead us to selling Anderson, which is a shame, and Minteh, no big deal. I think we lost more by losing the two people responsible though tbh and ultimately that spending also contributed towards us getting two Champions League qualifications and a trophy.

Why does Barnes always get lumped into these lists?

It’s mental.

I think whenever he goes through another long spell of being back on the bench or shifted to right wing. He is deemed as a waste of money.

Just conveniently ignoring the fact we need a squad and the number of top and important goals he has scored for us.

Think Barnes gets lumped in because he’s of similar ilk where they’re not a starter. It’s like Ramsey for me (and maybe Elanga) that we will eventually get value out of them because they’re not bad players, but will they consistently be in the starting XI to close gap to the main sides, doubtful.

They will help towards squad being better, but with limited funds we can spend, it’s a case of ‘surely we can improve the squad for less money / wages?’.

Unless our revenues rise substantially over time, having a higher squad floor with wages will compromise what we can offer our first team wages if they do well.

Why's Wissa even on the list? Big fee aye, but he's bagged 2 in 2 starts. Everything points to him definitely not being a flop.

Not to mention that he played a huge part in the final when Gordon was suspended.
